Matthew Perry: What Happened?

Matthew Perry is best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit TV 90s show Friends, but these days, fans know him as the one guy from the cast that doesn’t seem so happy, according to the Daily Mail. Fans around the world expressed concern for him on social media because of his disheveled appearance and how he looks tired all the time.

Some fans noticed that Matthew Perry looks a little beyond his age of 46, and they think it has something to do with his health. This concern isn’t out of place, however, because Matthew Perry has had issues with his health during his time on the show. The actor would be seen thinner in some seasons of the show in comparison to how he would look in other seasons. Matthew Perry even admitted last year that he has no memory of three years of Friends due to his addiction.

Even nowadays, Matthew Perry’s voice sounds different from how it used to. In particular, fans noticed how different Matthew Perry sounded in his interview on The Graham Norton Show in 2015.

According to Chron, Matthew Perry doesn’t want a Friends reunion anytime soon. As much as he loved the show, Matthew Perry is ultimately against the idea of rounding up the group together for one last time. Why? Because he felt the ending of the show would be spoiled.

Matthew Perry spoke on the idea of a Friends reuinion.

“That’s the concern about doing a reunion show or movie because it ended so well, We don’t want to sort of ruin that. Everybody asks about a reunion and there’s been no real talk of that. It was such a great job, we all loved each other so much, and we all had such a wonderful time that subsequent jobs have been harder to do than that one.”

An actual reunion happened in real life with Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow in attendance, with Matthew Perry missing, simply due to Perry’s prior theater commitments in London. As a compromise, Matthew Perry sent a video message for the reunited cast just to make his presence felt.

On the bright side of not getting a reunion, at least Friends fans know that Chandler and Monica are living happily together, and so are Rachel and Ross. Maybe Joey finally got that acting career steady while Mike and Phoebe are enjoying married life together and maybe playing some piano accompanied by guitar to the Phoebe Buffay classic “Smelly Cat.”

Fans will soon be able to catch Matthew Perry on TV once again, however, because according to NBC News, he was recently cast as Ted Kennedy in the Reelz miniseries The Kennedys – After Camelot.

The series will be a follow up to the 2011 miniseries that aired on the same channel. Matthew Perry stars in this period piece as the late Massachusetts senator, and the narrative follows the assassination of his brothers, President John F. Kennedy and New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Katie Holmes is also tied to the project to star opposite Matthew Perry as she reprises her role of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, the widow of the late president. Executive Michael Prupas was very excited to be working with Matthew Perry on the new miniseries.

Michael Prupas spoke on having Matthew Perry in the project.

“We are privileged to have an actor of Matthew Perry’s stature and ability take on the role of such a complex and controversial figure as Ted Kennedy.”

The original miniseries was an eight-episode run that aired on Reelz back in 2011. The new one, The Kennedys – After Camelot, is based on the book After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to the Present and will be on air during the spring of 2017.
