DJ Ashba has been part of, and contributed to, many of world’s well-known hard rock and heavy metal bands like Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, and his current group Sixx: AM. Now, Ashba is moving his successful online clothing business into the real world for the first time.
Since the early 2000s, DJ Ashba, while maintaining his music career, branched out into other outlets that require just as much creativity as the music industry. He is opening his first retail store for his clothing line, Ashba Clothing, in Las Vegas, NV on April 7, 2016.
The grand opening will be hosted by DJ Ashba himself on the second floor of the Stratosphere Tower Shops where the store is located. In true rock n’ roll fashion, the timeline is set for 9pm until “You Drop!” However, after the grand opening, the hours revert to more conventional operating hours: 10am to 10pm seven days a week.
The opening will include a black carpet, special guests, giveaways, a meet-and- greet, and music.
In 2003, DJ Ashba started his own graphic design agency Ashba Media, which beat out 106 professional media companies to become the Agency of Record for Virgin Entertainment, the world’s premier lifestyle entertainment retailer.
This was due to DJ Ashba’s small team of three hand-picked designers who helped create ten sample ad campaigns to capture the attention of Virgin Entertainment. Their focus on one-of-a-kind creative displays helped them build an impressive client base including Cirque du Soleil, MGM Resorts International, and Jeff Dunham, Inc.
During this time, Ashba Media was in charge of all the branding and marketing endeavors for the Virgin Megastores across the globe, until the economic recession in 2008, when many of their stores began to close.
DJ Ashba started a clothing line out of his garage at his home in Woodland Hills, California. What began as a small enterprise offering eight different designs on t-shirts evolved to include over 400 products that were selling worldwide.
Today, DJ Ashba’s focus is on edgy clothing, including t-shirts, hoodies, beanies, bandanas, and jewelry for men, women, and children.
With the grand opening quickly approaching, DJ Ashba has big goals for his flagship store, saying, “My plan is for this to be far more than just clothing. There will be a ton of cool events planned at the shop, making it a real go-to stop in Vegas.”
One of the online store’s most notable features is Build-a-Beanie, founded in 2014 by DJ Ashba, which allows customers to be the designer. They offer a wide selection of customizable beanies and patches in various colors. Ashba hopes to transfer this branch of Ashba Clothing offline as well, with plans of launching stores in malls across America starting in 2016.
In an interview with Inc. Magazine, DJ Ashba explained the importance of diversifying, saying, “My biggest advice is never look at yourself as just a musician. Never put all of your eggs in one basket, diversify. It’s always important to create multiple revenue streams, regardless of how well your career is doing.”
In addition to expanding Ashba Clothing, Ashba Media specializes in 3D Themed Environments, Special FX, Electrical/Non-Electrical Signage, Graphics, Conceptual Designs, Photography, Photo Op Displays, Digital Modeling, and Videography. The wide range of abilities and knowledge allows this company to branch out into many spheres, including the movie industry.
DJ Ashba described how his current media ventures can play into expanding their company, saying, “I am looking to step into the film/production industry next. My passion lies in scoring movies, script writing, directing, acting and producing. I also foresee opening an additional division of Ashba Media in Los Angeles where we focus strictly on special FX for film and television.”
For now, April is shaping up to be a major month for DJ Ashba. In addition to the grand opening of Ashba Clothing, his band Sixx: AM is putting out the first volume of their double album, Prayers for the Damned, on April 29. And their single, “Rise” has already reached the radio waves. See their upcoming spring/summer 2016 tour dates here.
