WWE News: Vince McMahon Second-Guessing Braun Strowman’s Push

It’s a well-known fact that WWE chairman Vince McMahon loves to have plenty of big guys on his main roster, and that love for big men has led to plenty of guys getting called up to the main roster way before they were ready to be on the big stage.

Braun Strowman is one of the big guys who was called up to the main roster before he was ready, as he had previously wrestled less than five matches in NXT. But he’s big, and that was what caught the WWE chairman’s eye.

At first, Strowman was getting a huge push. He was portrayed as an unstoppable monster, and, at one point, they were considering putting him in the ring with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. Thankfully that was changed, as the match probably wouldn’t have been all that good.

Now, Strowman is going to be in the third annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal this Sunday night at AT&T Stadium, and, as of right now, he’s the favorite to win the match. It’s also expected that he’ll win by eliminating last year’s winner, Big Show.

But it’s also expected that the rest of the Wyatt Family, with the exception of Luke Harper, who is out of action with a knee injury, will be in the Battle Royal as well, so it’ll be interesting to see just how WWE plans on eliminating both Erick Rowan and Bray Wyatt without making it look like the Wyatts are about to split up for the second time.

While Strowman is the favorite, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Vince McMahon is now second-guessing his decision to push “The Black Sheep” of the Wyatt Family, and that because of that, it’s no longer a guarantee that he’ll end up winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

“There have been second thoughts regarding Strowman, particularly given the reaction to his match with Ambrose in Philadelphia. At this point he is no longer a lock to win the Battle Royal, which he had been. They were open to other ideas this week. He still may win. But the plan for him to win the Battle Royal and face Lesnar at SummerSlam is no longer a sure thing.”

In the last several months, it’s looked like WWE was building a Brock Lesnar vs. Wyatt Family feud. There has been some speculation that the feud will continue this summer, but instead of Lesnar vs. Strowman, it’ll be Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt, which was supposed to happen back at WWE Roadblock. Lesnar ended up wrestling Luke Harper instead, as Bray was injured prior to the event.

As for who could win the Battle Royal instead of Braun Strowman, well, as previously mentioned, the rest of the Wyatt Family will be in the match. So, Bray Wyatt could end up being the winner, as he would be the biggest star in the match. It’s also a possibility that Big Show could win the match for the second year in a row.

WWE could throw a curveball at everyone, and have Damien Sandow win the match. But that’s unlikely, seeing as how they didn’t let him win last year when they should have. But it’s almost a lock that he’ll be one of the biggest fan-favorites in the match, that is if he lasts more than three minutes before getting tossed.

Even though it’s no longer a guarantee that Strowman will win the Battle Royal, he’ll probably still be prominently featured in the match, and he almost certainly will be one of the final four or six men in the match.
