Kehlani: Who Is The Singer Who Sparked Twitter Outrage?

You may have seen the name Kehlani trending on Google or Twitter for the past few days. That’s because the Grammy-nominated singer has been taking social media by storm simply over the confusion about her personal life.

Kehlani Parrish sparked social media concern when she reportedly attempted suicide amid the rumors that she was cheating on the guy they assumed she was still dating. There’s been ongoing drama and debate on social media about the singer, R&B singer PartyNextDoor (whose real name is Jahron Braithwaite), and Cleveland Cavaliers star Kyrie Irving over the past weekend.

It all started when Kehlani and Kyrie Irving started dating and sharing photos of each other on Instagram. Just three days ago, the couple removed all photos from their respective Instagram accounts, stating that they wanted to keep their relationship private.

Then on Monday, March 28, PartyNextDoor shared a photo of himself lying in bed and watching TV with Kehlani. Most assumed that the photo was recent and slammed Kehlani for cheating on her current boyfriend, Kyrie Irving. This prompted fans on social media to hurl misogynistic and slut-shaming insults at the 20-year-old singer for cheating on her boyfriend.

Some have even compared Kehlani to Ayesha Curry the wife of NBA star Steph Curry and a devout Christian who owns a cooking and lifestyle website Hello Beautiful.

Kehlani then posted a photo of herself hooked up to an IV inside an emergency room and admitted that the harsh comments caused to her to attempt suicide. According to TMZ, she was put on psychiatric hold on Monday, March 28, after paramedics rushed to a medical emergency at her home. The paramedics revealed to the celebrity gossip site that Kehlani “wanted to harm herself,” but later sources added that she was doing “much better” now that she’s been rescued.

The singer also revealed that she never cheated on any of the men she was involved with. In her Instagram post, Kehlani wrote that she was already broken up with Kyrie Irving before she got back with PartyNextDoor.

“I am severely utterly in love with my first love. Went thru a bad breakup and ended up easing into a relationship with a man who was one of my bestfriend [Irving]. Tho we realized we both weren’t exactly at a time where we were prepared to do so.”

“No I’m not a CHEATER, a THOT, im a BELIEVER IN FOLLOWING YOUR HEART and not LYING TO YOURSELF. Translation — I was with PND. We broke up. I got with Kyrie. We realized it wasn’t working out. Got back with PND.”

Kehlani also shared more pictures from her hospital bed, including a distraught PartyNextDoor sitting next to her. She added that she’s happy to be alive, adding, “God saved me for a reason.”

Now the singer has removed all of the photos from her Instagram page. Instead, she shared a photo of a sunflower along with the caption, “thank you for the love. everyone’s fighting things people know nothing about. healthy, home, & with ppl who love me. thank you 4 all support. all God. Will b taking space.”

Kehlani is planning to take a break from all forms of social media after calling it “the goddamn devil.”

“Social media is the goddamn devil. Go outside and play, you have your own lives to live that don’t revolve around ‘celebrities’ or ‘socialites’ who are simply trying to live lives like you,” she wrote in one of her now deleted Instagram posts.

Before earning a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album and collaborating with the likes of Zayn Malik and Justin Bieber, the tattooed beauty flipped burgers in her hometown of Oakland. Kehlani told the Human Serviette that having a lot of tattoos made it hard for her to find a job in her town.

“I really couldn’t get hired at a lot of places except for places that hired people that looked like me, like Hot Topic… Park Burger, they were very hipster-y so they enjoyed the little hipster vibe that I was giving them.”

She is currently signed to Atlantic records and has released two mixtapes, Cloud 19 and You Should Be Here. The latter received a nomination at this year’s Grammys.

Kehlani has since received a lot of support since the shocking news of her suicide attempt. Nick Cannon reportedly paid the singer a visit at the hospital she stayed at while Jojo and other artists shared their support on Twitter.
