EarthCam Wants You to Cover Hurricanes
Image via Wikipedia If you live within the path of hurricanes Hannah, Ike, and Josephine and you own a webcam, then Earthcam has a standing invitation for you to post live views of your areas.
Let me tell you, if you’re in the path of a hurricane, the best thing to do is to look after your safety.
The call came after Earthcam visitors tripled looking for views of areas being hit by last week’s hurricane Gustav. Now, I understand. It’s about traffic.
If you don’t know how to do it, Earthcam is urging you to sign up for a free account at MyCam where you can share and save live images on an easily created personal homepage that includes local time and weather conditions.
What’s nice with MyCam is that your account also allows you to generate revenue by allowing visitors to donate money to you. Yeah, I supposed you would need that if you focus on your webcam than getting ready for the hurricane’s wrath.

Another great example of a site that's been around a long time and keeps innovating and coming up with new ideas. That niche had LOTS of competitors in the past. Not 1/4 as many left.

I've live pretty close to the beach here in South West Florida, and I've tried to broadcast the hurricanes we've had off of UStream or Justin.tv, but the power always ends up going out at some point. I think I'll try to use Qik from my phone this time around. Ike here we come..... sort of.
