Arturo Vidal’s Dad Jailed While Player Prepares For Rematch With Venezuela

Chilean news source La Cuarta is reporting that international soccer player Arturo Vidal’s father was arrested on Tuesday for public intoxication, only to discover he had warrants for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The football star’s father is 55 and was walking in the middle of the road in the city of Victoria in Chile and, according to another source, Gazzetta World, he made a scene when officers showed up.

The arrest happens to take place on the same day that his son is scheduled to match with the Chile National Team against Venezuela as part of the CONMEBOL qualifier, which is hours away.

The Inquisitr reported on the first matchup of the five between Colombia and Ecuador on the qualifier schedule, competing for the World Cup, before Arturo Vidal’s Chilean team goes against Venezuela.

Earlier this week, Pulse reported that the midfielder was ready and itching at the chance to “recover lost points” in their match, stating that he needs three, of which the article refers to the defeat Chile suffered during the last qualifier.

The sources reporting on Arturo Vidal’s father have also referred to his history of problems with the law, as well as with the player himself, who also state that his brother is currently jailed for a different incident.

Arturo Vidal, at 28-years-old, already has a troubled reputation with arrests and confrontations on the field.

Last week, even the Bleacher Report wrote an op-ed wondering if Arturo Vidal has even done enough since joining Bayern Munich — a German team he also plays for — to justify the price tag of 37 million euros they’re paying him, which lured him away from his former club, Juventus. The amount translates to $41.5 million U.S.

Even with the news of his family’s run in with the law, Arturo Vidal is also trending with good news, such as the possibility that he could go back to his former coach, Antonio Conte, who will be stepping down from the Italian National Football Team and Azzurri as his contract is expiring, freeing him up to look at other clubs should be want them.

And thus far, he has set his eyes to manage Chelsea FC.

As the reports confirmed this news, Playing For 90/Fansided says that Arturo Vidal might be joining Chelsea FC later this year, following Antonio Conte when he takes over as manager.

Antonio Conte and Arturo Vidal as players have both reached near legendary status, as midfielders. But they were also both in Juventus when Conte was coaching.

In a recent interview with El Pais, while recalling the history between himself and Arturo Vidal, Antonio Conte was asked about the midfielder’s recent statement where Vidal said that if we were to go to war, he would take Conte with him; to which Conte immediately responded, as translated and quoted from Bleacher Report.

“I’d take Vidal too. He’s an amazing player. I must admit at Juve I found him hard to fit in. In my head I wanted to play a 4-2-4 and 4-4-2, but seeing the intensity of Vidal getting up and down the pitch I switched to a 4-3-3 which then transformed into 3-5-2. He has extraordinary physical and technical attributes, if I get to coach him a little more it’d be fantastic. I want him in all my teams.”

While this has yet to be confirmed, Conte had been public about wanting to also get Leonardo Bonucci as a defender for Chelsea but suffered a “blow off” when the player said he would stay with the Juventus club.

While he did show appreciation for Conte’s interest in Daily Mail, he stated why he would not follow him.

“The most I’ve followed him to is to get a coffee. I don’t know what the boss will do, but I’ve signed a renewal with Juventus and they are all I am thinking about.”

As Arturo Vidal prepares for his matchup against Venezuela, there’s no update as of this writing whether his father will be jailed for a long time or will be allowed to watch the match from his cell.
