‘Ratchet And Clank’ Remake Officially Goes Gold — Insomniac Games Releases ‘Captain Qwark,’ Trailer To Follow-Up [Video]

Back in 2002, Insomniac Games – the game developing geniuses behind the popular Spyro video game series – developed a brand new intellectual property (IP) to be introduced on Sony’s latest video game platform at the time, the Playstation 2. Thus, the Ratchet & Clank Series was born with its first game, Ratchet & Clank, releasing in November of that same year.

Apparently, the Ratchet & Clank Series proved to be very popular among gamers as Insomniac Games would release a total of nine games after the first. They are Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet: Deadlocked, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, and Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. Also, Sony – being the owners of the IP for the Ratchet & Clank Series – had other developers create games in the same universe including Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank.

Overall, the Ratchet & Clank Series is very popular and fans wanted to know the direction the series would go on today’s current generation Sony video game platform, the Playstation 4. It was a surprise when Insomniac Games made it known they are remaking the first game. Not only that, Insomniac Games is also making a movie based off the remake of the game too. Some gamers find such a move peculiar, questioning if such a move was wise. Well, we will find out if the Ratchet & Clank (remake) is up to par as it has now gone gold. In celebration of that, Insomniac Studios released a brand new trailer, telling the story of the movie through the eyes of Captain Qwark.

For those who do not understand video game development lingo, when a game has “gone gold,” it means a developer, and at times the publisher as well, have deemed a project complete for shipping. According to Gamespot, Insomniac Games made the announcement that the Ratchet & Clank (remake) has gone gold, and they celebrated by posting a picture on their official Twitter account of what the game disc looks like.

It should be noted that the Ratchet & Clank (remake) going gold is huge hype news given its popularity prior to its release. Insomniac Games made sure to release details about the game to further push sales. First and foremost, this game may be a remake but it is best to call it a “whole new game.” Besides the obvious changes of improved control, graphics, and the high-definition frame rate at 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second, the story and design have been heavily revamped to the point it is actually a new storyline based off of elements from the original. For example, one of the stages from the original November of 2002 release is back, but has been heavily expanded. As a result, there is more to do in the level which has resulted in the main story clocking in up to 12 hours to finish. Yet, there are a lot of tasks to do on the side along with the story or after the story is completed.

Insomniac Games is also advertising Ratchet & Clank (remake) as an opportunity for those to truly feel out what they missed back in November of 2008. To help them along, the game is budget-priced at $40, a steal for a game considered a “whole new game.”

Finally, Insomniac Games topped off Ratchet & Clank (remake) going gold by releasing a brand, new trailer (attached above) for the upcoming movie it is based on. According to Cinema Blend, the new trailer tells the synopsis of Ratchet & Clank but through the eyes of Copernicus Leslie Qwark, better known as Captain Qwark.

Ratchet & Clank (remake) releases exclusively on the Playstation 4 on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. As for the movie based on the game (based on the movie), it will release at the box office two weeks later on Tuesday, April 29, 2016.
