Theo James’ Girlfriend Ruth Kearney Not Interested In Fame, Stays Away From Social Media Like ‘Allegiant’ Actor

Theo James’ girlfriend Ruth Kearney was pushed into the spotlight when her British beau landed the role of Four in Veronica Roth’s renowned Divergent series. What some fail to remember is, just like the actor, Theo’s girlfriend is also a talented actress. Nonetheless, the Irish star told Daily Mirror that she’s not doing her job for popularity.

“That kind of side of it doesn’t bother me. I’m not in this industry to become famous, I don’t go for jobs because they will make me well-known, it’s so hopefully they will lead me on to more interesting roles.”

Ruth, who formerly appeared in BBC’s drama Primeval, also doesn’t use social media sites to check people’s reactions on her craft. Instead of reading reviews and tweets, she claims to be “more interested in normal people” who are actually watching her shows.

It appears that this side of Theo’s girlfriend is one of the reasons why their romance continues to be strong. The Allegiant actor once told Flaunt magazine that unlike most of his co-stars who use social media, he prefers not to share elements of his private life.

“I don’t have it and I never will. Other actors I know are really good at it and they rock and roll it, but it’s not for me. If I post a picture of us having a drink now and get loads of views or comments and stuff, then suddenly you’re quite exposed and you’re in a world of work. I just like being present.”

For Theo, being unplugged allows him to be more mindful and appreciative of the things around him. He also doesn’t Google himself, believing that what he sees online about him “doesn’t actually add anything” to his sense of self.

Reports have previously surfaced about Theo and Ruth’s engagement. The two have been dating for six years after meeting at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School in 2009. Their wedding was reportedly pushed back to a later date, and some came up with several speculations – the one involving Shailene Woodley remains the fan favorite.

Some think that Ruth might be jealous of Theo and Shailene’s closeness on the set of the Divergent films. However, Theo already emphasized that he’s just good friends with Shailene. The Fault in Our Stars actress likewise said that she only considers Theo as her brother. She revealed how she handles rumors about her so-called romance with her leading man.

I just keep answering that nothing is happening. And I think it’s really easy for people to fantasize about wanting these two people together. It’s like when I grew up and saw Titanic and I was like, ‘Kate and Leo, please just get together!’ Because you invest so much in their character’s relationship that at the end of the day, people will believe what they want to believe and you can only be as truthful as you can be.”

The reason behind Theo and Ruth’s decision to not rush their wedding is their schedule. Theo has several movies in line aside from The Divergent Series: Ascendant, which hits theater screens next year. He will also appear in other projects, including Underworld: Next Generation and War on Everyone.

As for Ruth, she landed a major role in the Netflix series Flaked. In the new series, Will Arnett is a recovering alcoholic who finds joy again because of Ruth’s character, a young waitress named London. However, the newcomer in the city does not only captivate Will’s character, Chip, but also his best friend Dennis (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

In an interview with Bustle, Ruth claimed that, even if London’s portrayed as a pretty girl caught in a love triangle, there’s so much more beneath her physical looks. She hints that London will indeed cause damage, but not intentional. “I mean it’s not uncommon that you read a script and the pretty girl is really just the pretty girl,” she added. Ruth said that London’s air of mystery made her love her role even more.
