‘Shadowhunters’ Teases ‘Malec’ And A Season 2 Preview

Shadowhunters is nearing the season finale, and with just two episodes to go in their freshman season, the creative team behind Shadowhunters is ready to amp things up. WonderCon played host to a Shadowhunters panel on Friday that teased the first of those two remaining episodes, entitled “Malec,” and that title alone is enough of a teaser to send fans into a frenzy.

News of an upcoming Shadowhunters Season 2 preview also has fans eager for more from this young, yet promising, supernatural series.

The Shadowhunters Cast Teases “Malec”

Events come to a head in this episode at the wedding of Alec (Matthew Daddario) and Lydia (Stephanie Bennett), when Magnus (Harry Shum, Jr.) interrupts the ceremony, demanding to speak to Alec. While it may have been a shock to the characters, Shadowhunters fans expected Magnus to crash the wedding, if only because Alec’s sister, Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia), had secretly invited the warlock.

Even with Alec’s mother pleading and insisting that Magnus leave at once, he refuses to depart without speaking to Alec. As all attention focuses on Matthew Daddario’s character, the Shadowhunters scene ends, leaving fans to speculate on how Alec might respond.

“Alec at this point is not just lying to himself, he’s actively building up walls to prevent him from feeling what’s actually going on inside of him,” Daddario said of Alec’s mental state in the upcoming Shadowhunters episode. “All the distractions and various issues brought on by all of these people … he has a lot to think about.”

Daddario also says, that he believes his Shadowhunters character will make the right decisions, when it comes right down to it.

Elsewhere in Alec’s life, he finds himself facing conflict in his friendship with Jace (Dominic Sherwood). While the two friends may be facing troubling times lately, Shadowhunters‘ Daddario says they will patch things up sooner or later. He says that their friendship is so passionate that it’s inevitable for them to butt heads every once in awhile, but that same passion means that this Shadowhunters friendship is everlasting.

Shadowhunters Showrunner Ed Decter On Season 2 Stunners

Based on the books by author Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters is attracting a large fanbase and enthralling them with compelling tales and otherworldly creatures. Decter says that the television adaptation does try to stay loyal to Clare’s literature, but, in the end, he wants Shadowhunters to deliver thrills and surprises to readers of the books, as much as to new fans to the franchise.

“We have a really action-packed season planned — a lot of things you loved about the books may happen, but may happen in a completely different way than in the books.”

On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, Freeform will air a special preview called Superfan Suite: Shadowhunters, which will give fans a sneak peek at what they can expect from Season 2. This may be especially important to catch, because Decter revealed Season 1 will end with a big cliffhanger, designed to leave fans guessing between the seasons.

Shadowhunters stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Harry Shum Jr., Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, and Isaiah Mustafa will join showrunner Ed Decter and executive producer McG on the special.

The stars will discuss their favorite scenes from season 1 of Shadowhunters and talk about what they would like to see happen in Season 2.

“The cast will also participate in some fun games that will challenge their Shadowhunter knowledge, as well as read some fan tweets that have been collected throughout the season,” reads a statement from Freeform in part, describing what will take place on Superfan Suite: Shadowhunters

The next Shadowhunters episode, “Malec,” will air on Tuesday, March 29, on Freeform.
