Miss Universe Contestant Says She Plans To Sue Organization After Crown Stripped For Being Photo Shy

Former Miss Universe Puerto Rico contestant Kristhielee Caride says she was wrongfully stripped of her title after she made the statement that she didn’t like having her photograph taken. The beauty pageant winner says that she had her crown abruptly removed following an interview in which she told the media, “I just do not like the cameras.” She claims that the removal of her title caused her to spiral out of control emotionally and that she has since been admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Now she says she is ready to fight the organization who turned their back on her for simply “having a bad day.”

The Daily Mail reports that former Miss Universe Puerto Rico Kristhielee Caride is planning to sue the Miss Puerto Rico organization after they stripped her of her crown. Caride says that after her title was removed, she suffered significant emotional stress which resulted in the inability to eat or sleep. Ultimately, the beauty contestant entered into a psychiatric rehabilitation center for depression, which she claims is the result of the unfair treatment by the Miss Puerto Rico organization and her abrupt crown removal.

Caride says that after the pageant turned their back on her, she got help because a “dark depression came over me.”

“This situation hit me very hard. I can tell you I got some help because a dark depression came over me.”

However, the Miss Puerto Rico organization says that they rightfully stripped Caride of her crown because she was not fulfilling the duties of a pageant winner. The organization notes that Caride made public comments about not liking to be in front of cameras which they claim comes with the territory of being a beauty pageant winner. They say that Caride never apologized for her un-pageantly interview and that she was not representing the organization in a manner they deemed beneficial. Additionally, the organization says that Caride canceled appearances at the last minute to attend a doctor’s appointment that she claimed she couldn’t reschedule.

“Miss Puerto Rico is a public figure and part of your job is to be in front of the camera You always have to put your best face forward. It’s a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions. I saw the damage that she was doing and the damage that she was doing to the organization.”

While Caride is no longer representing Puerto Rico in the Miss Universe pageant, she continues to represent the municipality of Isabel after she claims her depression is now under control.

However, Caride says she isn’t done fighting with Miss Puerto Rico over her de-crowning and plans to take the organization to court.

“(I feel) betrayed by the organization because there was never a moment that I disrespected them. There wasn’t a reason for them to do what they did to me.”

Following the removal of her crown, Caride took to Facebook to thank those who have supported her through her dark times.

“Thank you! For every one of his words of support and motivation, for your prayers and solidarity. Thanks to all those people that without knowing me believe in me and want what’s best. For your words that fly through every corner of my beautiful island. I am grateful to those that have been worried about my health; more than anything else. To my fans, you have been and will be my biggest motivation to move forward. Love you with all my heart, Kristhielee.”
