Miley Cyrus Joins ‘The Voice’ For Season 11

Miley Cyrus will be sitting in a coach’s chair during Season 11 of The Voice. TMZ is reporting that Gwen Stefani and Pharrell will not be returning this year, and that Miley Cyrus will fill one of the vacated the spots. No stranger to controversy, the addition of Cyrus to the NBC show is sure to rattle some fans of the singing competition. TMZ reports that The Voice showrunners selected Miley because she appeals to the targeted demographic.

In an effort to give viewers a little preview of what Miley Cyrus can bring to the show, she will appear on the March 28 broadcast as a guest advisor in the competitions’ knockout rounds. Rolling Stone reports that she will join the show full-time when the new season premieres. Pharrell and Cyrus both tweeted the news about this new opportunity for the 23-year-old singer.

Joining Miley Cyrus as a new coach will be Alicia Keys, who appeared in Season 7 as a mentor for Williams’ team. NBC Entertainment’s Paul Telegdy issued a statement about the addition of Miley and Alicia to the coaching lineup on The Voice.

“The musical expertise and energy these two incredibly talented women will bring to the show is remarkable. We’re thrilled that they’ll be joining Adam and Blake in what we know will be a magical 11th season.”

The full coaching lineup for Season 11 of The Voice includes newcomers Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys along with country star Blake Shelton and pop rocker Adam Levine. It’s not known how much either Cyrus or Keys will be paid for their role as coaches, but The Wrap reports that both Shelton and Levine make about $13 million a season. Both men have been on The Voice since its very first season. The presence of Miley and Alicia will be the first time that two women have been part of the coaching panel. NBC has not ruled out the possibility of Pharrell Williams returning in some capacity in the future.

Miley Cyrus has had a busy year. She released a new album, Miley Cyrus & Her Petz, in August. It was her fifth studio album. Miley worked with psychedelic rock band the Flaming Lips in creating the album. Producers were Mike Will Made It and Oren Yoel (with whom she had collaborated on Bangerz). The album features guest vocals by Big Sean, Sarah Barthel of Phantogram and Ariel Pink. Cyrus collaborated with Oren Yoel on her previous album titled Bangerz, on which Big Sean also appeared. Prior to her recent work, Miley originally became known for her role as Hannah Montana on a Disney show by the same name.

Also on Miley’s mind as she prepares for her new role on The Voice is the planning of her wedding. The singer is engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth. Miley and Liam met while working on the coming-of-age film The Last Song. Their relationship has experienced ups and downs, and while there were rumors of a split recently, a source told Hollywood Life that Miley and Liam are still very much together.

“As for Liam totally breaking things off, that hasn’t happened. There is strain, but they both know that they have to work to make it work. It is not over yet… [Miley] truly believes love will find a way… no matter what.”

Miley Ray Cyrus was born in Franklin, Tennessee. In addition to Hannah Montana, in her childhood she had small roles in Doc and Big Fish. Miley’s first album was titled Meet Miley Cyrus. It went quadruple platinum. Her father is country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.
