BBC News reports that 36-year-old Collins, who carried the St. Kitts and Nevis flag at the opening ceremony and was hoping to compete in his fifth straight Olympics, says he was given permission to see his wife for a night, but St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) said they had not heard from him for three days.

“Mr. Collins departure is down to his repeated absences from training sessions and also for refusing to respond to repeated phone calls and emails by team manager and coaches,” the Committee said in the statement. “Furthermore, Mr. Collins did not make an appearance for registration for his events at the Olympic Village (on Friday) as requested.”

After the SKNOC’s announcement, Collins took to Facebook to express his frustration:

“Hours before my 5th 100m olympic race, i now find out i cant run,all because i was in a hotel with my wife/coach. S.K.N.O.C REALLY? Are you freakig kiddin me!!!!!!!!”

Collins, sixth in the 2000 Olympic 100m final and seventh in Athens, revealed that incident would signal the end of his international career.

According to ESPN, Kim Collins is the second of an original seven-athlete Olympic team from St. Kitts and Nevis to be disciplined.

Sprinter Tameka Williams, the only woman on the team, was sent home last weekend for a potential drug violation despite not testing positive for a banned drug.
