Anime News Update: Berserk 2016 Set For Streaming Soon! First TV Teaser Reveals Theme Song

Japanese dark fantasy manga Berserk is coming to TV. Crunchyroll will be streaming the anime series very soon.

According to Anime News Network, Crunchyroll will start the anime streaming “this summer.”

The streaming site also confirmed the announcement on their blog adding that Berserk is their “big acquisition for this summer.” So far, there are no set details yet on the specific time and date of the streaming, but it will be announced very soon.

Loyal fans of Berserk were amazed by the announcement, especially since this will give them the opportunity to watch Berserk “legally.” Others noted that Kentaro Miura, Berserk manga creator, will finally receive the credit he deserves.

Crunchyroll has a subscription service, but they are also offering their streaming service for free. There are different translations offered but it would depend on the geographic.

Crunchyroll is currently available to 170 countries, but there are some series that are only available in the U.S. Though free streaming for some anime series are available throughout the year, other in-demand series are limited to up to 13 weeks availability for free users.

Because of the massive popularity of Berserk, this announcement has encouraged fans to actually get a subscription with Crunchyroll.

“I am going to pay just to watch it. This will be the first time I ever pay for an anime. (I am usually good with manga, but anime was always an easy free stream for me),” said a user.

Though fans are generally hyped, they are worried that the translation would ruin the big release. Other users and fans have already read and completed Berserk manga, so they know a lot about the storyline. Nonetheless, Crunchyroll has been offering subtitles to all of its releases and they are mostly created in English.

There are also talks about the possibility of the show getting an English dub. Because of the production timeline, it could be possible that it would take about 5 weeks or more for the dubbed version to be released.

So far, the Japanese voices were already announced in the casting.

  • Hiroaki Iwanaga as Guts
  • Kaoru Mizuhara as Puck
  • Y?ko Hikasa as Farnese
  • Kazuyuki Okitsu as Serpico
  • Hiro Shimono as Isidro
  • Hiroki Yasumoto as Azan
  • Toa Yukinari as Casca
  • Takahiro Sakurai as Griffith

The short clip featured some familiar voices and faces. It also had the popular music by Susumu Hirasawa. The other exciting news about the new series is that Yokohama-based rock band 9mm Parabellum Bullet will be doing Berserk anime’s summer theme song.

Berserk is one of the most popular fantasy manga worldwide. It has sold 40 million copies internationally and Kentarou Miura’s story is still continuing its production. Berserk Volume 38 will be released on June 24, 2016.

The story revolves around Guts, a mercenary who was taken by a group called “Band of Hawk.” Guts eventually became the right-hand man of the group as he helped everyone improve their reputation.

Berserk also offers a lot of pivotal story points that are very emotional. This type of storytelling has fascinated readers not only in Japan, but also people all over the world. It is even considered to be one of the “leading comics of all time,” according to Crunchyroll.

“Set in a world where swordplay, magic, and monsters run wild, it portrays the protagonist Guts’ magnificent way of life. Packed to the brim with top-notch action, romance, spectacular scenes, and drama, it is sure to entertain the audience!”
