Actress Charisma Carpenter, herself an attack survivor, will host Investigation Discovery’s newly announced show I Survived Evil, which tells the stories of people who refused to become victims.

In 1991, Carpenter was 22-years-old when she escaped a brutal attack by a serial rapist that left two of her friends with gunshot wounds and in serious condition, according to NY Daily. This experience helped channel Investigation Discovery select her as the most appropriate host for their upcoming program, I Survived Evil, about people who fought against their attackers to become survivors instead of victims.

The synopsis of the show, according to ID: “The show will feature dramatically compelling and emotional stories of victims who fought back against their attackers and, against amazing odds, survived. The 10-episode first season of I SURVIVED EVIL is slated to begin filming in August 2012.”

Carpenter’s own personal experiences will aid her as she helps to tell the miraculous stories, reports HitFix. “The fact that Charisma has personally lived through the tragic nightmare of being attacked – and thankfully, is willing to share her ordeal with our viewers – makes her the perfect host for I Survived Evil” states Henry Schleiff, president and general manager of Investigation Discovery. “In addition to being a face that her loyal Buffy fans will recognize, Charisma adds an important layer of depth and perspective to this series that only a survivor truly could.”

Carpenter is perhaps best-known for her long-running television role as Cordelia Chase in Joss Whedon’s cult-hits Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel. In addition to her hosting duties, Carpenter continues to act, appearing currently in ABC Family’s The Lying Game. She boasts recent big-screen credits as well, having appeared in The Expendables and slated to reprise that role in Expendables 2 releasing soon.
