Mariah Carey Cancels Brussels Show, But Due To Security Concerns Or Inconvenience?

Due to security concerns, Mariah Carey has canceled her Brussels show. Following the terrorist attacks that took the lives of 31 people this past week in the Belgian capital, Carey has shared that she feels a threat may still be looming and doesn’t want to take her chances.

The diva was sure to share the announcement of the cancellation with her fans and was sure to note that the cancellation was based on the advice given and due to concerns for her fans, her band, her crew, and herself via social media. Carey posted on Twitter, as USA Today relayed.

“I love my fans in Brussels and at this time I am being advised to cancel my show for the safety of my fans, my band, crew and everyone involved with the tour. I hope to see you soon and send my prayers and eternal love, laughter and light to my Lambs.”

The cancellation comes mere days before the singer’s 46th birthday celebration and just days after the terrible terrorist attacks. As the publication shared, Belgian authorities arrested three people in separate raids in Brussels, one of whom was carrying explosives in backpack and sitting at a metro tram stop. An additional attack occurred at the Brussels airport and subway station on Tuesday. In addition to 31 fatalities, nearly 300 people were wounded in the attack.

As TMZ shared earlier this week, Carey’s team has been “strongly against” the idea of the songstress performing in the nation of Belgium so soon after such violent and horrific attacks, noting Carey’s level of fame and her high-profile engagement to billionaire James Packer.

The entertainment news site also indicated that another reason the cancellation was made involved the fact that Mariah and her team feared the logistics would be a nightmare, seeing as airports may be closed, meaning the superstar would possibly not be able to get in on time for her Sunday show. Lateness is definitely something Carey wants to try to avoid after taking heat earlier this month for arriving nearly an hour late for her performance in Leeds, U.K.

Due to her lack of punctuality, many of Carey’s fans at the concert were vocal about their frustration, as the Daily Mail shared:

“Unsurprisingly, her fans didn’t take kindly to the punctuality faux pas, venting their frustrations via social media site Twitter. One user, Charlotte White, wrote: ‘Sat in Leeds First Direct. Where are you, Mariah?’, while a second posted: ‘Excuse me Mariah Carey, but there are 10,000 people in Leeds waiting for you. Care to join us? #late’.”

Mariah, however, seemed as though she was ready and set to be on time for the performance that she ended up being so tardy for. The diva had posted to her own social media platform earlier in the evening, noting her progress and that she was excited to perform for her U.K audience.

“My darling #Lambs! As much as I hate leaving this fabulous bed at the @CorinthiaLondon, I am on my way to see you all in Leeds in 30 mins!”

Clearly, this was not the case, as the star did not arrive in the short 30 minutes she had promised. Sources were quick to suggest that her children were in need of Mariah’s affection that evening, and others shared that Carey had been up late a number of nights in a row leading up to the performance, and so perhaps needed her beauty rest. The rest must have done her well, because many fans still shared how well the star performed after she finally arrived.

“Despite the fact she was late, Mariah Carey was AMAZING tonight!!”

Mariah will be able to catch her breath due to the Brussels cancellation and get her beauty rest regardless of reasons for nixing the show.
