TV Pilots Currently In The Works Feature Creatures, Former Stars and Comic Book Characters


While viewers are in the middle of the current TV season, producers, directors and stars are currently filming a slew of possible new television shows all around the country. On Location Vacations recently posted a huge list of current pilot projects that may or may not make it to the small screen in 2016-2107 and what part of the country that they are being filmed in. Some of these pilots feature stars that we haven’t seen in a while like Candace Bergen and Stockard Channing, some are based on best-selling novels and many are either reboots or inspired by former TV shows and movies. Here are some of the highlights of what you might be seeing in the future.

TV Pilots with Star Power

Dream Team
This pilot is about a successful soccer coach starting all over again with 8-year-olds and their parents. Justin Long and Wanda Sykes are attached. (ABC)

The Fluffy Shop
Semi-autobiographical comedy about actor-comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias showcasing life as a stepfather. (ABC)

Pearl
Candace Bergen to star in a pilot about a the “larger-than-life family matriarch” who is battling cancer and uses the illness as a way of controlling her family to bend to her will. (ABC)

Charity Case
Courtney Cox to star as a woman who inherits her husband’s charity and learns the ropes of charity work the hard way. (FOX)

Untitled Kevin James Show
Kevin James to star as a retired police officer wanting to reconnect with his family at home and not surprisingly, finds that its difficult. (CBS)

Doubt
Katherine Heigl is attached in this TV show about a “smart, chic, successful defense lawyer” who gets romantically involved with one of her clients who may or may not be guilty of a violent crime. Laverne Cox also attached. (CBS)

Model Woman
Inspired by Robert Lacey’s book of the same name, Andie MacDowell and Steven Weber star in a 1970’s era modeling agency. (ABC)

The Great Indoors
Joel McHale stars as a former adventure reporter who is now the boss of a digital department of a magazine. Stephen Frey is also attached. (CBS)

Untitled Matt LeBlanc Show
Matt LeBlanc is working on a new comedy about a stay-at-home dad. Jenna Fischer is also attached. (CBS)

Good Place
Kristen Bell and Ted Danson to star in a comedy about a woman who struggles on what it means to “be good.” (NBC)

Marlon
Comedy loosely inspired by the life of Marlon Wayans, starring himself. (NBC)

Me & Mean Margaret
Stockard Channing to star as a famous yet offensive actress. (NBC)

TV Pilots Based on Former TV Shows

Marvel’s Most Wanted
Another spin-off from Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD following the characters of Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse and Lance Hunter. Adrianne Palicki, Nick Blood and Delroy Lindo to star. (ABC)

24: Legacy
Basically a reboot of the original 24 series with similar real-time structure with a whole new cast of characters. (FOX)

Chicago Justice
A spin-off of Chicago PD to star Philip Winchester, Nazneen Contractor, Joelle Carter, Carl Weathers and Lorraine Toussaint. (NBC)

Prison Break
A new chapter from the original series about a man who saves his innocent brother from death row from helping him escape prison. (FOX)

MacGyver
A re-imagining of the original TV series featuring a 20-something life hacker. (CBS)

TV Pilots Based on Movies

Training Day
This show is said to take place 15 years after the events the original 2001 film of the same name left off, focusing on an idealistic African American police officer who is paired with an older and morally ambiguous detective. Bill Paxton and Justin Cornwell are attached. (CBS)

Lethal Weapon
Based on the movie franchise of the same name, featuring a former, grieving Navy SEAL and current cop who gets paired up with another officer under orders to avoid stress due to his recent minor heart attack. Damon Wayans Sr. attached. (FOX)

Cruel Intentions
Based on the 1999 movie of the same name, and taking place 15 years later, the show follows Bash Casey (the son of Kathryn Merteuil’s brother from the film) who learns of his father’s history of immoral power. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Peter Gallagher attached. (NBC)

The Exorcist
While not directly inspired by the movie, this pilot is inspired by Williams Blatty’s book from 1971. The show is said to be a psychological thriller following two different men handling one family’s struggle with demonic possession. Geena Davis attached. (FOX)

Taken
A prequel to the trilogy of Liam Neeson films. (NBC)

Frequency
A re-imagining of the original film set in 2016, this time with a female police officer who learns that she can communicate with her dead detective father from a ham radio. (The CW)

TV Pilots Based on Spooky Stories

Midnight, Texas
Based on the book series of the same name by Charlaine Harris about a remote town that includes vampires, witches, werewolves and angels as residents. It is said to be a mystery/horror/romance show. (NBC)

Time After Time
Follows the adventures of a young H. G. Wells and his famous time machine. Based on Karl Alexander’s 1979 novel of the same name. (ABC)

Transylvania
Set in the 1880’s, a woman and a Scotland Yard detective learn firsthand the “births” of the most famous monsters and villains in history. (The CW)

TV Pilots Inspired By Comic Books

Powerless
An office comedy set in the DC Comics universe with normal insurance company employees seeking their own power. Vanessa Hudgens attached. (NBC)

Riverdale
Characters from Archie Comics set in modern times discover the “darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.” Luke Perry attached. (The CW)

And Other TV Pilot Projects

Notorious
This show promised to show a “provocative look at the unique, sexy and dangerous interplay of criminal law and the media,” which is inspired by the true life events of criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos and cable news producer Wendy Walker. (ABC)

Son of Zorn
Perhaps the most bizarre of this bunch of show – an “animated” Barbarian father returns home from battle ten years later to his “live action” family to learn that living in suburbia is harder than war in an animated world. Jason Sudeikis, Cheryl Hines and Tim Meadows attached. (FOX)

Bull
Based on the early years of Dr. Phil McGraw’s trial consulting film. (CBS)

Drew
An update on Nancy Drew as a 30-something detective. (CBS)
