‘The Rock’ For President? Dwayne Johnson Responds To Suggestions

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has a rather varied history in the spotlight, and through it all he’s proven to be a public favorite. He started as a wrestler for the WWE, spawning the popular phrase, “Can you smell what ‘The Rock’ is cooking?” Now, as the 2016 presidential election is coming up, fans are hoping to repeat the success of Ronald Reagan.

Reagan was originally an actor in classic Westerns and may have used his fame, much like Trump is today, to gain traction and become President of the United States of America. It was a relatively successful run, as he proved to be able to run the White House as well as his non-celebrity counterparts. This might be part of the reason why fans were hoping to see The Rock do the same thing, but the suggestions may have given Dwayne Johnson an idea to look into at some point in the future.

Admittedly, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s film career didn’t start out so well. His major debut was as a CG character in The Mummy Returns, which looked so fake it nearly destroyed the movie. The spin-off film The Scorpion King was more critically panned, but he made more than just a brief cameo that time. He also had his lows with the Get Smart remake, the film adaptation of the video game Doom, and the ill-fated sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Dwayne Johnson began gaining his footing as an actor when he joined Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious series as Hobbs, a spec ops soldier sent specifically to take Dominic Toretto down. He might not win any Oscars for being in Pain and Gain, the Baywatch remake, or San Andreas, but Johnson has proven to be a fan favorite.

Apparently, some fans are hoping that Dwayne Johnson will give Donald Trump the people’s competition, and take the Republican hopeful down in the polls.

This election hasn’t given Americans many universally-liked choices, and some candidates who might have been good for the country ended up dropping out. So far, the only candidate not trying to get elected using some form of previous fame is Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders. Dwayne Johnson would probably fit right in with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump because of name recognition, and some feel he might be the next Ronald Reagan.

When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson heard about the fans’ suggestion, he didn’t exactly say he wouldn’t run. He just might wait on it, adding, “Surely the White House has a spot for my [pick-up] truck.”

The New York Daily News says that Johnson has “cross party appeal” and he really is a hard worker, having used his physique to make a name for himself in the WWE, and his personality to break into acting. Also, based on his response about his pick-up truck, he’s relatable and practical.

Even though Dwayne Johnson probably won’t run for President of the United States in 2016, he might still go for it in 2020, where his opponents appear to be rapper Kanye West and (as it looks for now) Donald Trump.

It would be interesting to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson show the White House and the United States what he’s “cooking.” He might even bill himself as “The People’s Candidate.”
