One Direction Hiatus Or Break Up? Harry Styles and Zayn Malik: Simon Cowell Spills The Details
The One Direction hiatus or break up rumors have been slowing down, but Simon Cowell has stirred up the topic again. In recent, tell all interviews, Cowell has been quite honest about Zayn Malik and Harry Styles going solo and whether the group even wants to stay together. Cowell reveals the early conversations and ongoing decision being made day by day.
Zayn Malik had already left the band to make a solo career when talk about a hiatus started. Simon told Billboard he did not really appreciate the “rude” way that Zayn had expressed his dissatisfaction, but he didn’t really care if Zayn left One Direction. Cowell assigned Malik to RCA rather than Syco, but Malik did not break ties with Cowell.
“Zayn is still signed to our company.”
The One Direction boys were ready for a break, too. They’d made albums together. They had toured all over the world together and somehow, five years had passed. They were worn out.
Seeing Zayn Malik leave impacted them all, as well. It was a sudden change they had not counted on according to Cowell. Increasingly, Harry Styles started dreaming of his own solo album. Louis Tomlinson was about to become a Father. Niall Horan and Liam Payne felt the need to rest and reflect. They all had to decide; hiatus or break-up.
“We talked about it, and I couldn’t argue with them. They had achieved so much in a short period of time, and I didn’t want them to get jaded. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to trust people more, particularly artists. They’ll decide when they want to come back together.”
“They were like five puppies – really excited, loads of opinions, always wanted to hang out.”
One Direction is special to Simon Cowell. It’s not just about the money. Simon cares a lot about those puppies. Will they leave the nest and strike out in all directions? Will the Hiatus lead to a break up, or will they eventually find One Direction again?
Louis Tomlinson has also spoken with Billboard about the initial decision to take a hiatus. He spoke warmly about Cowell.
“Simon was completely understanding when we told him we wanted to go on a break. Not once did he put any pressure on us. Most people would’ve tried to give us at least a nudge. But he didn’t. That’s a real reflection of his character. Once you get to know him, he’s lovely and kind. Simon is one of the first people I told about my son, Freddie. You can trust him.”
One Direction, minus Zayn Malik, made the decision to take a break, but Cowel considers it a real possibility that 1D will break up eventually. He really does not know how things will turn out With Harry Styles solo career, though he does express confidence in his abilities.
“[Harry Styles Will] work out what kind of record he wants to make because he’s got great taste — which is always a help. All the writers and producers want to work with him, understandably, but he probably won’t rush into it.”
One Direction may have an uncertain future, but individually Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are forging careers on their own. It is pretty clear that Zayn Malik will not be returning to One Direction, but what about Harry Styles? Cowell can not even be sure whether Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne will want to come back together, but it is their decision.
“I don’t know if it’s a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don’t want to know. I don’t think they’ve had enough time to experience what it’s like not being in the group to really answer that.”
One Direction members are undecided. With Zayn Malik already Gone, Harry Styles working solo, and Louis Tomlinson experiencing fatherhood, it is hard to know what the outcome will be.
