Kim Richards Says Monty Brinson Promised To Watch Over And Protect Her

Kim Richards has a guardian angel, and he is helping her get through her difficult year and stay on track with her sobriety. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum says that before he passed away in January, her ailing ex-husband Monty Brinson told her that he would take care of her — even after his death. In a new interview with People, Kim said Monty is helping her get through the difficult months in the aftermath of his death.

“He told me he’d always be with us, watching and protecting. And I know he’s still up there pushing me to do what I need to do. He’s our angel.”

Kim has posted several Instagram photos of Monty over the past few months, describing him as her “strength” and her “angel.”

Kim Richards and Monty Brinson divorced nearly 30 years ago, but they remained extremely close after their three-year marriage ended in 1988. Brinson is the father to Kim’s daughter, Brooke, and Kim was by her ex’s side during his long battle with lung cancer, even moving him into her home so she could take care of him after some of his most excruciating hospital stays. Now, more than two months after her ex-husband’s death, the former child star still feels his presence.

“I miss him a lot. He was my best friend. I confided in him. He knew everything.”

Richards also posted a poignant tribute to her ex-husband after he passed away earlier this year. The Bravo star wrote that she knows they will be together again one day.

In the months leading up to his death, Brinson was also active on social media, proving that he and Kim could be the most amicable exes of all time. Not only did he defend Kim after her arrest for public intoxication at the Beverly Hills Hotel last April, but he also came to Richards’ defense after her highly-publicized arrest for shoplifting last year. And even though he was very ill last fall and in the final stages of his cancer battle, Monty accompanied Kim out to dinner to celebrate her 51st birthday last September.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kim Richards revealed her final words to her longtime love right before he died. Despite the fact that she knew he was dying, Richards said she still didn’t expect it to happen.

“He was glad that he was going first because he didn’t think he could bare it if it was me and he had to be left here. I said, ‘I love you,’ and then I felt him just kind of leave, and it was shocking. I just didn’t expect it.”

Kim was also asked how Brinson’s death affected her sobriety, and she said her recovery “is going amazing.”

Of course, Kim isn’t the only person having a hard time dealing with Brinson’s death. The couple’s daughter, Brooke Wiederhorn, recently posted a throwback picture of herself and her dad with the caption, “The days don’t seem to get any easier.”

Kim Richards is not a regular on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this season, but she made a cameo on a recent episode to hash things out with her long-estranged sister Kyle. Kim also appeared with her youngest daughter, Kimberly Jackson, on the Lifetime therapy-themed reality show The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition, which was filmed toward the end of Monty’s cancer battle.
