This weekend, NASA’s Mars Rover Curiosity will land on the red planet.

The space agency is anticipating 7-minutes of terror as the Mars Rover descends to the surface of Mars and you’ll be able to watch it all live online. NASA will be broadcasting several live videos over the next few days. The highlight will be on Monday night when the Mars Rover makes its descent to the red planet.

NASA writes on its website that the Mars Rover is on-track and is scheduled to make its landing on August 6th.

NASA writes:

“Curiosity, the car-size, one-ton rover is bound for arrival on Mars at 1:31 a.m., EDT on Monday, Aug. 6. The landing will mark the beginning of a two-year prime mission to investigate one of the most intriguing places on Mars.”

NASA currently has two other Rovers on Mars but the Curiosity is the most technologically advanced. The Curiosity, along with the Opportunity and the Spirit, will search Mars in an effort to find evidence of alien life.

NASA writes:

“The overarching science goal of the mission is to assess whether the landing area has ever had or still has environmental conditions favorable to microbial life, both its habitability and its preservation.”

Before it does, the spacecraft will have to go through seven minutes of terror to reach the Martian surface.
