Vicki Gunvalson, Brooks Ayers Drama: ‘RHOC’ Star Kept In The Dark About His Cancer?

After months of accusations from her Real Housewives of Orange County co-stars, 53-year-old Vicki Gunvalson has finally been vindicated by former boyfriend Brooks Ayers from accusations of covering up or lying about his cancer scare. He claimed that he was diagnosed with cancer prior to the filming of last season’s episodes. Radar Online reports that Ayers made the following statement regarding Gunvalson’s awareness of his condition and the treatment he received for it.

“At the time, I simply made a request to Vicki that we deal with this in a very private manner so as to keep out the noise of any questioning of my treatment choices moving forward. As a result, while filming continued, I began to not include Vicki in any of my medical appointments and/or details because I simply wanted to be left alone.”

Back in September, questions were raised about the medical records Ayers provided to Gunvalson that he stated indicated he had cancer. An oncologist spoke to Radar Online and stated that the PET scan and CT scan results that Brooks Ayers provided were not conclusive regarding a cancer diagnosis. That oncologist stated that the only way to definitively diagnose cancer is through a tissue biopsy.

Following that statement by the oncologist, Vicki Gunvalson’s Real Housewives of Orange County co-stars accused her of participating with Ayers in a scam to lie about his cancer diagnosis. In November, Ayers admitted he had fabricated the medical records. Some of Gunvalson’s Real Housewives of Orange County co-stars insisted that she take a lie detector test when she said she was unaware of Ayers’ deception. She refused and stated that she was offended that her friends doubted her word so much that they needed a lie detector test in order to believe she was being honest with them.

Ayers told People that he was diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2013 and shared his diagnosis with Gunvalson. He added that despite his request that she not share the news, she reached out to some of her friends that appear on Real Housewives of Orange County. When filming of Season 10 began, Brooks’ diagnosis and the reaction of Vicki’s friends put a great deal of pressure on their relationship and led to their breakup. At that point, Ayers says he stopped informing Gunvalson about any details of his diagnosis. Today Brooks issued a statement in which he clarified that Vicki Gunvalson did not lie about his medical condition or mislead anyone. She simply did not know the truth.

“Vicki is a lot of things, but stupid? Hardly. A liar? Hardly… Vicki was not in on any cancer scam or created storyline. There is no scam. I simply didn’t continue to give her information about my illness when I learned of the devious nature and intentions of the cast… Vicki never has paid me to be quiet regarding this ‘supposed’ scam nor has paid me to release any statements… Vicki is a woman of integrity and compassion, and would never lie about something so serious as this.”

Vicki responded with her own statement.

“First of all, I would like to thank Brooks for once and for all speaking out on this, and for reiterating what I have said numerous times. Over the last year I have been bullied, belittled, and humiliated by viewers, the media, and my so called ‘friends.’ I am not now, nor have I ever been involved in covering for Brooks. I continue to wish him nothing but the best and hope that we can both now move past this difficult chapter in our lives.”
