‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6: Which Actor Wants Their Character To Die?

Besides its nudity, HBO’s Game of Thrones is pretty much known for killing off its characters. For one actor who has survived all the way through to season 6, they would be happy to join the exclusive “shocking Game of Thrones deaths” group. Who do you think it might be?

SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses the upcoming Season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

For Game of Thrones fans, season 6 is heralding in many things; the first season that has no background literature, having outgrown its source the show is based on. The fact that no screeners have been released this year after the gross leak prior to season 5, and fans will have to wait — along with the media — for their very first glimpse of season 6 beyond the scant season 6 promotional stills officially released via HBO and the fake spoilers released by Alfie Allen. Whether Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) lives or dies this season, and, as is usually the case for this show, who lives and who dies brutally in season 6 of Game of Thrones.

But, for one Game of Thrones actor, they would be perfectly happy to see their character die in season 6. Not because they hate their character that much, but because they love the epic ways in which HBO kills off their main characters.

Sophie Turner, who plays one of the few remaining Starks left on the show, would would like to see Sansa die at some point in Game of Thrones. As she told the Wall Street Journal, what’s the point of being in a show like Game of Thrones if you aren’t killed off in a dramatic way?

“I don’t want to survive… If you’re on Game of Thrones and you don’t have a cool death scene, then what’s the point?”

Good point, Sophie. But, she didn’t go as far as to say her character will die in season 6. Stating instead that Sansa will actually “thrive” this season by “taking charge and being a leader.” So, even though she is looking forward to the potential of an epic death scene, it seems Sansa still has plenty of life in her yet.

But what about those epic death scenes in Game of Thrones? Turner is right by stating there is no point in being in Game of Thrones if you don’t have a worthy death scene. After all, fans remember Ned Stark’s beheading that began the slaughter and set the scene for TV fans who had never read the books by George R.R. Martin that the show is based on. The red wedding reinforced the fact no one was ever safe in the show. The purple wedding proved that sometimes the bad guys got their just desserts and scenes like Tywin’s death on the toilet prove that HBO has no boundaries when it comes to killing people off — even if they are just having a quiet moment. And then there are the scenes that remain burned into fan’s heads. Viserys Targaryen getting molten gold poured on him. Poor Shireen Baratheon getting sacrificed to the Lord of Light. And who can forget Oberyn Martell, the cocky Dornish prince who thought he had killed the Mountain, only to get his head bashed in by said Mountain.

But who will take their turn to die in season 6? Sophie Turner didn’t elaborate, but did have this to say about the upcoming unknown season to WSJ.

“The past five seasons have been everyone spreading out and going their separate ways and it’s very sparse. Season 6 feels like everything is coming together and storylines intertwining and people are forming alliances with other characters and everyone is coming towards the same goal.”
