‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Spoilers: Jaime-Cersei Relationship Will Get Even Weirder?

Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently and told them that Season 6 of the blockbuster HBO series will see the relationship between Jaime and Cersei Lannister get darker and stranger than ever before. Is that possible? The sexual relationship between the two Game of Thrones characters is incestuous, so it has always made us uneasy to watch. Apparently, the writers are going to crank up the weird factor even more this year. Lena Headey commented on what Game of Thrones has in store for Cersei Lannister this year.

“It’s probably her most interesting season. She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in.”

Spoilers begin now. Do not read any further if you do not wish to read spoilers.

Season 5 of Game of Thrones ended with Cersei Lannister taking a Walk of Shame by the Faith Militant, who gained a stronger hold on King’s Landing. This was her punishment for an admission of adultery (but not incest). Now that she has returned to her family, the experience with the Faith Militant will fuel her determination to get revenge on the religious fanatics. Season 6 will include the return of Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), the other half of this Game of Thrones brother-sister couple. He has failed in his attempt to retrieve their daughter, Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free), and bring her back to King’s Landing alive. Despite his failure, Cersei will need Jaime as she plots and takes her revenge. When asked what will happen between Cersei and Jaime next on Game of Thrones, Lena Headey said the following.

“Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level. It’s juicy, and it’s so f**king dark.”

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently said that they believe Season 6 will be the series’ best one yet. That’s saying a lot for Game of Thrones, a show in which anything can and does happen. When asked what aspect of the coming episodes is the best, Benioff told Entertainment Weekly the following.

“The whole season. Dan and I talk about this a lot. This is not us trying to hype it. Usually there’s an episode or two we’re kind of nervous about, that didn’t turn out as well as we hoped… there is not a weak episode. We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest… Then the episodes came in better than we hoped. We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.”

Other developments between Jaime and Cersei that, based on the Game of Thrones books, we may see this year include the death of Cersei’s last child, and Jaime falling out of love with her. In the Game of Thrones Season 5 premiere, there was a prophecy that all three of Cersei’s children would die before her. Two have now died. It seems likely that the new episodes of Game of Thrones will include the death of her last, Tommen. Season 5 included a storyline that was a combination of things that happened in the Game of Thrones books. In Book 4, Jaime spends a great deal of time on diplomatic travels. While gone, he becomes disillusioned with Cersei as he realizes how badly she has treated him. Could it be that upon his return in the new episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, we will find him similarly disillusioned? We shall see.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24. In the meantime, check out the official trailer below.
