Music legend Stevie Wonder (real name Stevland Morris) has filed for divorce from his second wife, fashion designer Kai Millard Morris.

According to TMZ, the break-up is based on irreconcilable differences. The couple has been married since 2001 and have two young sons. Stevie Wonder is asking the court for joint custody of the kids. Court papers evidently also indicate that Stevie Wonder has agreed to pay both spousal and child support.

Stevie Wonder, 62, and Kai Morris apparently have been separated since October 2009, so the actual divorce filing was several years in the making.

California is a community property state, which means a divorcing couple generally splits up the assets 50-50 regardless of who was the high earner, but presumably a prenuptial agreement may be involved in the Stevie Wonder-Kai Morris relationship, as is often the case with high-profile celebrities in second (or third) marriages.

Stevie Wonder was previously married to Motown singer Syreeta Wright from 1970 to 1972. He reportedly has seven children from his marriages and past relationships.

As a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Stevie Wonder has recorded more than 30 top ten hits and received 22 Grammy Awards, the most ever awarded to a male solo artist. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

Of note, Stevie Wonder performed at the February 19, 2012, memorial service for Whitney Houston at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.  On June 4, 2012, Wonder performed at the Jubilee Concert for  Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations at a mass open air concert outside Buckingham Palace, London.
