A big farm tractor isn’t the getaway car choice for most crimes. But after crushing every squad car in the parking lot, well, you can getaway in just about any vehicle.

The Associated Press reports that a man in Vermont decided to exact his revenge on the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department by destroying their squad cars. The man, who was apparently upset over a recent marijuana bust, rode his tractor over five marked cruisers, an unmarked squad car, and a transport van.

The deputies didn’t notice that their cars were being destroyed until a neighbor called 911. When they finally did make it outside, they could only watch as 34-year-old Roger Pioin made his incredibly slow getaway.

Chief Deputy Philip Brooks said: “We had nothing to pursue him with.”

Unfortunately for Pion, his perfect crime was short lived. City police in Newport eventually caught up with the man riding his tractor down the road.

Sheriff Kirk Martin said that Pion probably caused about $300,000 in damage.

Martin said that in addition to the obvious damage, ”the radios are ruined, the radar detectors, the cages in the cars … We’re going to have to get the jaws of life up here to pry the trunks open and see about the rifles and shotguns.”

Pion could face seven felony counts of unlawful mischief. The 34-year-old man will also face charges of gross negligent operation and leaving the scene of an accident. He is currently being held on $15,000 bail.
