Same Sex Kiss Day At Chick-Fil-A Planned For Friday
In a direct response to Chick-Fil-A’s very public opposition to same-sex marriage, several gay rights activists, supporters, and groups are planning a “Kiss In” at several locations of the popular restaurant on Friday. According to MSNBC, the protests are being organized by Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s Carly McGehee, who believes that company president Dan Cathy should “get to know” the people he’s discriminating against.
The aforementioned protest, which has been dubbed “National Same-Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A”, will supposedly take place today (August 3) at various restaurant locations across the country. The event arrives two days after Chick-Fil-A supporters rallied around the embattled chicken-slinging establishment, giving the business it’s best single-day totals in company history.
“Let’s show Chick-Fil-A thanks for their support of Love, Equality, and the Real Definition of Marriage! Invite your friends!” organizers posted on the official “Kiss Mor Chicks” Facebook page. Participants in the protest are encouraged to venture out to the nearest location and snap a photo or, alternatively, take a video of themselves kissing.
Although Chick-Fil-A has come under fire for Cathy’s comments regarding same-sex unions, the amount of hungry people who showed up at the restaurant on Wednesday were numerous. The Los Angeles Times reports that the lines often wrapped around the building, forcing some people to wait for over an hour to get their hands on a tasty chicken sandwich.
“This company is family-owned, and they’re putting their money where they want to, and that’s their right,” Newport Beach resident Ian Conger explained to the Times. “Nobody should tell someone how they should spend their money. God is very good to my wife and I, and I feel God’s going to be with us through this and he’ll be with the opposer as well. He doesn’t hate anybody.”
Given the amount of strong emotions surrounding Chick-Fil-A and Dan Cathy’s statements, here’s hoping nobody gets injured while attempting a “Kiss In” at nearby locations.
