Blackhawks Player Garret Ross Suspended Indefinitely For Revenge Porn

The Chicago Blackhawks say that they have indefinitely suspended Garret Ross after learning that he is being prosecuted in an alleged revenge porn case. Ross, 23, who currently plays for the Blackhawk’s minor league team, is charged with the “non-consensual distribution of private images.” This is also known as revenge porn, because after a breakup, one partner will share these images publicly without the permission of the other.

According to the Inquisitr, revenge porn has become an increasingly troublesome issue, with sex acts and nude photos being shared on the internet. Recently, Charles Evens and Hunter Moore were convicted of a large revenge porn case in which they stole images from others and published them for money and amusement. The two showed no sympathy for the lives and reputations they ruined.

NBC Sports reports that Garret Ross was suspended from the Blackhawks before his career in the NHL truly began. Garret Ross, 23, is being charged with one count of felony revenge porn. Ross was playing for the minor league branch of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Rockford IceHogs, when the organization became aware of the charges against Ross.

The team says they excused Ross from all team activities while they review the charges against Garret Ross.

“After further review, we have determined to suspend Garret indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal process.”

Because the case against Garret Ross is still pending at this time, the Blackhawks organization says it will have no further comments at this time.

Garret Ross was a fifth-round pick in 2012, but he has never gone beyond the Rockford IceHogs to actually play for the Chicago Blackhawks. Ross was said to be having personal problems as of late, which had him excused from practice.

Sports Page Network says that it has always been the dream of Garret Ross to play ice hockey in the NHL, but a bad act in his personal life that rises to a felony might tank his career before he reaches the pinnacle. Garret Ross shared videos and images of a woman who had been dating one of his teammates, and she had not given her consent to have these private photos shared.

Both Garret Ross and another player had been seeing women they met on the dating app Tinder, while they already had girlfriends, and shared intimate images with each other. When the women, including the victim, broke up with Ross and the other player after finding out that they had girlfriends already, the angry texts and threats started. The threats included that the video would be made public. Garret Ross sent the victim the video, proving he had it to distribute, which is enough proof of intent.

“The images that were shared with him were not to be disseminated, and he knew that,” Sycamore police Cmdr. Michael Anderson said.

The investigation has been going on for four months. Police now have the cell phone belonging to Garret Ross in their possession, which included some of the images in question. Garret Ross is facing a possible sentence of three years in prison for the revenge porn crime.

Garret Ross is currently out on bail and is suspended from the Blackhawks and professional ice hockey.
