Dwayne Johnson Shares Shirtless ‘Baywatch’ Set Photo Taken With David Hasselhoff

Actor Dwayne Johnson apparently brought a blast from the past to the Baywatch movie set: David Hasselhoff!

Along with a solid ensemble of actors and actresses that were still children (or barely born) when the Baywatch TV series first aired, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson added former TV star David Hasselhoff to the cast as well.

As he has done with many other social media posts promoting the Baywatch movie cast, Johnson did not hesitate to speak highly about the man standing alongside him in this shirtless photo.

Dwayne started his caption by reminding his followers and fans about David Hasselhoff’s past accomplishments from the 1980s and 1990s with two hit TV series — Knight Rider and Baywatch.

“In the 80’s he drove the coolest car on the planet. In the 90’s he dominated slo-mo running on the beach with the most successful TV show of all time.”

The WWE star-turned-actor went on to explain the “phenomenal day on set” that he enjoyed with “the OG himself, David Hasselhoff.” He also credited Hasselhoff with being “the man who started it all” and a “great dude with a great sense of humor.”

Perhaps Dwayne Johnson’s final statement about David’s training to get in shape for the role was a bit redundant, especially for those that had already noticed Hasselhoff’s impressive physique in the posted photo.

David Hasselhoff also posted a couple of pictures of his own on Twitter from the Baywatch set, including one with Zac Efron.

Long before this particular photo was posted online, Dwayne Johnson has been promoting David Hasselhoff’s involvement with the Baywatch movie, especially on Facebook.

The Baywatch television series premiere in 1989 marked a return to the small screen for the former Knight Rider star.

Perhaps the most impressive part of his Baywatch experience was the business mentality and overall vision that he brought to the table. The original run of Baywatch was actually cancelled after the first season. David did not allow that to stop him, though, because he knew that the show had potential. Hasselhoff invested his own money into its revival within the first-run syndication market in the early 1990s, coming on board as an executive producer as well as one of its leading stars.

The second run of the Baywatch television series lasted for 11 seasons and over 240 episodes.

Dwayne Johnson opened up to Entertainment Tonight about the Baywatch movie last August, claiming that he wanted to make sure he paid tribute to the classic television series with an added touch of edginess and action for the big-screen.

“We’re excited about it. I’ve known Zac for some time for years by the way, and this project has been in our wheelhouse and we’re very excited to make the movie… The cool thing about this is we want to make a movie that’s big, fun, epic, and all the things that you want. We want to make sure that it has edge and…action and dirty jokes!”

Baywatch starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra (Quantico), and Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas), along with an appearance from David Hasselhoff, is currently scheduled to make its way into theaters on May 19, 2017.
