Renee Zellweger Is Back In New Trailer, ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’

Renee Zellweger reprises her role as lovable Brit, Bridget Jones, in the new movie trailer for Bridget Jones’s Baby. An older, 40-something Zellweger is up to her old Bridget Jones antics. As showcased in Metro, Zellweger plays the unlucky-in-love Bridget Jones, who is still clumsy, still struggling with her career, and still has a filthy mouth, which are almost all of the things that made us fall in love with Zellweger’s character in the first place. This time around, though, Zellweger did not gain extra poundage for her role as Bridget Jones.

Independent UK reports Director Sharon Maguire as stating the change is merely a reflection of where Jones is in her life.

“We all really loved the notion that Bridget, 15 years on, had finally reached her ideal weight,” said Maguire. “Somewhere between a UK size 10 or 12… but still hadn’t solved any of her issues about love and loneliness.”

What else is new in Bridget’s life besides her slender figure? How about an unexpected pregnancy? To complicate things even more, Bridget is not entirely sure who the father is.

According to USA Today, Hugh Grant’s character is out of the picture, but just like the previous films, Bridget is juggling two men. Colin Firth returns to reclaim his role as long-time love, Mark Darcy, and Grey’s Anatomy Patrick Dempsey (you may know him as Dr. McDreamy) is the new-comer to complete the love triangle.

“I decided not to do it,” Grant told Free Radio regarding his decision to turn down the role in Bridget Jones’s Baby, “but I think they’re going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book’s excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different — well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago.”

The movie does deviate from the last book, which may be a good idea considering it received mixed reviews. Mainly the negative reviews stemmed from Colin Firth’s character committing suicide. Not exactly a popular idea for a romantic comedy.

Bridget Jones’s Baby movie trailer opens up with a scene of Zellweger’s character finally walking down the aisle and all ready for her “happy ever after.” As the scene quickly turns into a shot of Bridget sitting alone on her couch with a cupcake while “All by Myself” plays in the background, we realize the wedding scene was just a fantasy.

Bridget goes on to point out all the great things in her life, from her activities at the gym, her career, and her love life.

“Aside from one tiny development…I’m pregnant…Everything is completely under control…sort of,” Zellweger says in her cute British accent.

Bridget then has to break it to her mother she’s only 50 percent sure who the father is.

“Did you have a three-way?” her mother exclaims.

Back in February, the Inquisitr reported even Zellweger doesn’t yet know who the father of Bridget’s baby is.

It’s been over a decade since we saw Zellweger in the last Bridget Jones installment, and some wonder in a world of superheroes if Renee will be able to capture the magic of the original films or reel in the same big box office bucks.

Another question fans may have is will Renee look like Renee? According to ET, in 2014, Zellweger received a lot of negative press for presenting a dramatic new look for Elle’s 21st annual Women in Hollywood Celebration. To many, Renee Zellweger was completely unrecognizable. It appeared Renee had had a bit too much plastic surgery, and fans were not digging it.

If you watch the trailer, Zellweger looks much more like herself again. Perhaps the Botox wore off or she found a great surgeon to return her back to her original look. Check out Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones’s Baby trailer and decide for yourself.
