NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Drafting Vernon Hargreaves From Florida Gators

NFL rumors have been swirling around the Dallas Cowboys and what they’re going to do to upgrade their corner back position. Armed with the fourth overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has a really good chance at resolving a big issue that has prevented his team from dominating the National Football League. According to NFL.com, Vernon Hargreaves of the Florida Gators is paying a visit. He can be of great help to Dallas.

There’s a lot of competition in the NFL for the services of Vernon Hargreaves. In addition to visiting the Dallas Cowboys, the 20 year old corner back also has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars and four other teams on his schedule. The reason why Hargreaves is racking up so many miles is because he is arguably the best corner back coming into the National Football League this summer.

Vernon Hargreaves has an opportunity to become the next shut down corner back in the NFL. He started all three years for the Florida Gators. During that time, Hargreaves had ten interceptions and 17 passes defensed. His numbers started decreasing towards the tail end of his collegiate career because opposing NCAA quarterbacks started fearing him, much like how quarterbacks in the National Football League avoid throwing the ball towards the side that Josh Norman and Darrelle Revis are defending.

The Dallas Cowboys could definitely use a shut down corner back. Morris Claiborne is being given one final chance to prove that he was worthy of being a first round selection in the NFL Draft. Brandon Carr didn’t deserve the $50 million handed to him by Jerry Jones. Orlando Scandrick is a good corner back, but he’s coming off of a torn ACL. Players sometimes lose their effectiveness after suffering that horrific injury.

If starting quarterback Tony Romo is healthy, then the Dallas Cowboys feel that they can compete with anyone in the NFL. It’s their defense that needs work. In addition to upgrading the corner back position, the team is also looking to find upgrades in their front seven. The Cowboys are in need of a third linebacker to team with Sean Lee and Rolando McClain. Dallas is also going to be grabbing as many defensive linemen as they can.

Vernon Hargreaves could also wind up with another team in the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles traded Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso to the Miami Dolphins, which enabled them to move into the eight overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. They’re said to be interested in Hargreaves as well. New Eagles head coach Doug Pederson knows that corner back is a position of need, so he might convince management to make another trade so they can draft the Florida native.

Three other positions might prevent the Dallas Cowboys from changing their minds on Vernon Hargreaves. If California Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff impresses Jerry Jones and Cowboys head coach Jason Garett, then they might choose him as their quarterback of the future. Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Joey Bosa might be able to fix the pass rush for Dallas. Buckeyes running back Ezekiel Elliott is moving up the charts, and he can be the workhorse runner for the Cowboys.

The NFL Draft is an exciting time for teams. It’s their chance to try to fix things on the roster and win more games. Jerry Jones seems unlikely to stop until he wins another Super Bowl. If he feels that Vernon Hargreaves can do for him what Deion Sanders once did, then the All American corner back will be wearing the star on his helmet.
