According to ESPN, the 33-year-old two-time defending Olympic gold medalist has pinkeye. Despite the condition, Walsh says she has no intention of slowing down or backing out of the Olympics.

The doctors have told the athlete her conjunctivitis, which has prevented her from holding her two and three-year-old sons,  should last about 2 1/2 weeks, which means she’d have to deal with it through the Aug. 8 title.

“It’s super minor,” Walsh said Tuesday at a meet-and-greet with reporters arranged by the FIVB, the sport’s international governing body. “It just looks worse than it is.”

ABC writes that Walsh Jennings and her partner May-Treanor have opened the 2012 Olympic games in London with wins in their first two matches in pool play — a 16-game winning streak that stretches back to Athens.

Regardless of the outcome of their next match, which takes place tonight (Aug. 1 @ 11pm EST) against Austrian sisters Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger, Walsh May-Treanor are virtually assured of a spot in the knockout round.
