Gwen Stefani Embarrassed By Gavin Rossdale Divorce: ‘It Was Rock Bottom’

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale parted ways in August, 2015, and according to a new interview, the divorce was completely “embarrassing” for Stefani. Following reports of an alleged three-year affair between Bush singer Rossdale and their former nanny, Mindy Mann, Gwen Stefani spoke out about her heartbreak while promoting her new album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like.

During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, which airs on March 20, Gwen Stefani told host Lee Cowan she was “so embarrassed” after splitting from her husband following 13 years of marriage and three children together, Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 2.

“I had no skin, it was so raw, you know what I mean?” Gwen Stefani recalled of the end of their marriage. “And nobody knew what was happening and I had this big secret.”

As Us Weekly reported in November, 2015, Rossdale was reportedly caught cheating on Gwen Stefani by one of their staffers, who informed the former No Doubt member of the alleged affair.

“During that time period, I felt like, I was down all the way,” Gwen Stefani continued. “Like you don’t go down lower than that. It was rock bottom. I was so embarrassed, you know what I mean? I was like, ‘Wow, I can’t. I have to turn this into something. I can’t go down like this. Like, if I can do music, then maybe just everything will be okay.'”

After being told about Rossdale’s reported cheating, Gwen Stefani came across text messages sent back and forth between Rossdale and Mann, which allegedly included plans to meet for sex. However, when Gwen Stefani confronted Rossdale about the messages, the rocker denied having done anything but flirt innocently with their employee.

According to the report, Rossdale eventually came clean about his relations with Mann, and Gwen Stefani filed for divorce.

While Gwen Stefani didn’t mention her husband’s alleged affair, nor has she ever, Us Weekly noted that she alluded to the incident during her interview.

Gwen Stefani also told Cowan she was so thankful to have established a strong friendship with Blake Shelton, her co-star on The Voice, during that devastating time.

“In all this craziness that happened, like unexpected horribleness, I found a friend who was going through literally the exact same thing as me, and that is a miracle,” Gwen Stefani explained. “And it just saved me so much, and I feel so grateful for that.”

As fans well know, Gwen Stefan’s friendship with Shelton, who divorced Miranda Lambert in July, 2015, just weeks before Stefani’s split, turned romantic late last year, and in November, they went public with their romance both on the show, and off.

As for her own regrets, Gwen Stefani claims she has nothing to hide.

“I don’t feel like I have anything to be ashamed of,” Gwen Stefani explained to Time, via Us Weekly on March 18. “I’ve done nothing wrong. I don’t feel like I have anything to protect about myself. But when you’re a mother, you have to have some boundaries.”

In the months since Gwen Stefani’s relationship with Shelton began, the two have been targeted by many rumors, including a possible pregnancy, twins, an engagement, a wedding and even a breakup. However, none of those rumors appear to be true — at least not quite yet.

Gwen Stefani’s full interview will be seen on CBS Sunday Morning on Sunday, March 20.
