Mariah Carey is taking “diva” to a whole new level. This week the “Shake it Off” singer kept her fans in Leeds, England, waiting for nearly an hour before she decided to make an appearance. This clearly left her fans feeling frustrated and ready to share their disappointment about the lengthy delay. Mimi was meant to take the stage at 8:45 p.m., but by 9:30 she had still not arrived and fans had already begun blowing up social media with their annoyance towards the star.
One such post came from Twitter and included a plea to the superstar to join her own party.
“Excuse me Mariah Carey, but there are 10,000 people in Leeds waiting for you. Care to join us? #late.”
Another shared that the sentiment was felt throughout the arena as fans booed the singer’s tardiness.
“lots of boos Lots of boos as we wait for Mariah at the FD Arena. 45 minutes late and counting”
The same fan also complained that the ticket was not worth the $100 price that was paid for it. Interestingly enough, Mariah posted about her excitement and anticipation of the show, just hours before it was set to start. Wonderwall shares the ironic social media post the diva added before disappointing her fans.
“Earlier in the day, Mimi assured fans she was counting down the hours until the show, writing an Emoji-packed message on Instagram and Twitter that read, ‘#lambs on my way!! Three more hours!!'”
Closer to the performance time, Mariah jumped on Instagram once more noting the difficulty she finds in leaving her luxurious hotel suite behind for the show, but that she was on her way.
“As showtime neared, she hopped on social media again, admitting, ‘My darling #Lambs! As much as I hate leaving this fabulous bed at the @CorinthiaLondon, I am on my way to see you all in Leeds in 30 mins!'”
For as many negative social media posts Mariah’s tardiness resulted in, there were as many that supported the blonde beauty. Michael from Melbourne slammed critics for their frustrations with the singer.
“Who’s complaining that Mariah is late? Hush. Mariah transcends time, dahhhling, you can’t hold her to regular standards.”
Reports as to why Mariah may have needed her bed at the hotel for a little longer point to the diva burning the midnight oil leading up to the performance. The publication shares the circumstance that led to Carey getting into the Moet and staying up far too late when arriving in the U.K.
“As soon as she landed in the UK, the singer reportedly beelined for a rehearsal venue (where ‘a crate of Moet’ awaited her) and stayed up most of the night getting ready for her Glasgow performance.”
Sources are also reporting that Mariah was a bit too demanding and unfocused during the rehearsal for the performances.
“Sources said she’d send her assistants out into the dark on a 3 a.m. grocery run to stock up on supplies to entertain her twins, Monroe and Moroccan, who have apparently joined their mom on tour.”
Another musical diva was even more tardy for a recent performance. Madonna, the Queen of Pop, showed up a whole three hours late this week for her Brisbane, Australia, performance.
The superstar then had the nerve to blame the fans for their punctuality and early arrival. Newser relays Madge’s words to the audience after she finally arrived.
“It’s you people that get here early that’s the problem. Stay home, do your hair and makeup, have a tequila. Roll yourself a fat one… Just come late and I won’t have to come early.”
