Previously Unseen Photos Of Kurt Cobain’s Suicide Gun Released By Seattle Police

To dispel conspiracy theories that Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain may have been murdered, the Seattle Police Department has finally revealed previously unseen photos of the shotgun that was used in his suicide. Previously, only partial glimpses of the gun were possible in the death scene photos released by the police after Cobain died, aged 27 years.

The body of Kurt Cobain was found in a greenhouse room above the garage of his home in an upscale neighborhood of Seattle on April 8, 1994. Cobain was found wearing blue jeans and purple Converse All-Star trainers, and according to the autopsy results, had just injected a lethal dose of heroin prior to shooting himself. The Seattle Police Department found Cobain’s drug kit, housed in a cardboard cigar box, by his side.

According to the coroner, Cobain was reportedly still clutching the 20-guage shotgun, from which a shot had struck his brain through his mouth. There was also reportedly a suicide note, along with the pen Cobain had used to write it.

CBS News has been investigating the conspiracy theory that the shotgun used by Kurt Cobain to commit suicide had been melted down to hide evidence in what conspiracy theorists call a cover-up of a possible murder. At their request, the Seattle Police Department has now released photos relating to the investigation of Cobain’s death, along with more than 100 pages of police reports.

Reportedly, on the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death two years ago, the Seattle Police Department developed four rolls of crime scene film, somehow overlooked earlier in the investigation. They have now revealed 34 photos of the death scene that had previously never been seen.

Since Cobain died in 1994, thousands of his fans have continued to believe he didn’t commit suicide and that the anti-authoritarian musician was murdered. Last year the documentary film Soaked in Bleach was released – now available on Netflix – which questions the police investigation into Cobain’s death. The trailer of the documentary is included at the end of this article.

In the documentary film, theories are aired by Los Angeles private investigator Tom Grant, who was hired by Cobain’s wife, Courtney Love, to find the Nirvana singer in the days leading up to his death. However, besides Grant, the documentary also features several law enforcement and forensic experts who also question the suicide and are calling for the case to be re-opened.

According to the International Business Times, one of these law enforcement officers was former Seattle Police chief Norm Stamper, who said, “If we didn’t get it right the first time, we damn well better get it right the second time, and I would tell you right now if I were the chief of police, I would reopen this investigation.”

However, Stamper was chief from 1994 to 2000 and never did launch a probe into the controversial death of the Nirvana front man during that time.

According to the Washington Times, back in 2014, a report by Seattle police cold case Detective Mike Ciesynski (pictured above holding the gun), who reviewed the Cobain file together with the additional evidence, said that the correct conclusion had been reached in the death of Kurt Cobain, saying, “The investigation on the death of Kurt Cobain, which was conducted 20 years ago, reached the correct conclusion.”

Reportedly Washington Times tried to reach out to the Seattle Police Department about the case but were unable to get a response, and the case remains closed.

On a gruesome related note, a related search on Twitter has revealed that T-shirts are being sold, imprinted with Kurt Cobain’s suicide note.
