With only two episodes left of season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead, this used to mean fans would have a long wait until the next season arrived. But now, thanks to Fear the Walking Dead, it means there is only three weeks left until the season 2 premiere! However, could episode 1 actually be the last for one of the main characters?
SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses season 2 of AMC’S Fear the Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.
The season 1 finale of Fear the Walking Dead saw Travis Manawa’s (Cliff Curtis) group escape with Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) to Strand’s secure house. In episode 6 (entitled “The Good Man”), it seemed like Strand would take to the open waters and was not particular to the rest of the group joining him. However, with the latest stills released by AMC, it would appear — for whatever reason — Travis’ group have, in fact, ended up on Strand’s luxury yacht from as early as the very first episode of season 2 and Fear will pretty much immediately occur on the high seas. Also released is the synopsis for episode 1 (entitled “No Safe Harbor”):
“After finding refuge on Victor’s yacht, tensions arise among the group.”
While this synopsis is short, it does give the impression that perhaps Strand’s hand was forced in the matter as to allowing the whole group onto his yacht. And there are a couple of images in the new release of stills that also indicate that Strand may have had to make a snap decision and allow everyone onto his boat.
The image below shows what could potentially be the reason why the group has to make a quick decision about boarding the yacht. Travis and Madison (Kim Dickens) are standing on the shore with a multitude of items stacked around them, likely destined for Strand’s yacht, Abigail. Madison holds a bag and a blanket, stepping forward like she might be ready to head out. Travis is behind her with what looks like a rolled up tarpaulin in his hand. He appears flustered, like they are in a big hurry, or perhaps have just come through a traumatic event, that of which is indicated in the trailer video above. The most interesting thing to note is the fire in the background. Could this indicate that Strand’s house has perhaps burned to the ground? Although, no one seems to be covered in soot, so perhaps they started the fire? Was Strand’s house overrun by the walking dead? If so, this could be a reason why they torched the place as well as why Strand might have let them all board his boat. There are also a couple more images in the gallery below that show the potential of them being on the yacht and still being close to shore on account of the slight yellow glow over the images. But what of that character who could be in danger?
The second Fear the Walking Dead image shows something that might be of concern to Nick (Frank Dillane). In the above teaser video of Fear the Walking Dead, fans get their first look at underwater walkers for season 2. Now, look at the image below. Can you see Nick beginning to dangle his foot over the edge of the pontoon he is sitting on? Could you image that foot being grabbed by an underwater walker? Is AMC hinting at a possible danger for Nick right from the very first episode of season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead, especially since there is a brief flash of Nick underwater in the teaser video? Only time will tell! Which — thankfully — is only three weeks away.
