Juan Pablo Galavis Says He Wants To Join ‘The Bachelorette’ To Compete For JoJo Fletcher’s Heart

Juan Pablo Galavis has his eye on JoJo Fletcher. The controversial Bachelor star has revealed that he may want to sign on for the upcoming season of The Bachelorette so he can have a shot at love with the Dallas real estate developer.

Juan Pablo took to Twitter to post that if JoJo is the new Bachelorette he “might have to sign up.” Galavis also made it clear that he has heard a lot of good things about JoJo and that he thinks she’s cute.

While Juan Pablo Galavis may be interested in competing for JoJo, he may have used up all of his date cards. The former Venezuelan soccer pro first competed for the heart (and the final rose) of Desiree Hartsock on the ninth season of The Bachelorette. After Des dumped him, Galavis made history as the first Latino star of The Bachelor. But Juan Pablo’s season was controversial due to his polarizing behavior and his proposal-less finale. Juan Pablo picked pediatric nurse Nikki Ferrell for his final lady, but he didn’t propose or even utter an “I love you” to her. The couple split eight months later.

Juan Pablo also caused controversy when he said he was opposed to seeing a gay Bachelor star. In an interview with The TV Page, Galavis said having an openly gay or bisexual Bachelor star would be a “bad example” for kids.

“I don’t think it is a good example for kids to watch that on TV… You have to respect everybody’s desires and way of living. But it would be too hard for TV…There’s this thing about gay people… it seems to me, and I don’t know if I’m mistaken or not… but they’re more ‘pervert’ in a sense. And to me the show would be too strong… too hard to watch.”

Juan Pablo was slammed for his comments about gays, and ABC producers immediately began to distance themselves from The Bachelor star. In fact, host Chris Harrison seemed really angry with Galavis during that season’s After the Final Rose special. Harrison tried to get the scoop on the status of Juan Pablo and Nikki’s relationship, but Galavis wouldn’t talk. When asked point-blank if he was in love, Galavis told Harrison, “I’m not going to answer that question.” In turn, The Bachelor host seemed disgusted and said, “I don’t know what I’m looking at” about the couple.

In his blog for Entertainment Weekly, Harrison wrote that something didn’t feel right about Juan Pablo from the get-go.

“When we chose [Juan Pablo] we truly believed he had the qualities that would make him a great Bachelor. But from the beginning something just didn’t seem right and something didn’t fit. We can debate over what that is, but the truth is that is irrelevant.”

While Juan Pablo is interested in making a return to the reality dating ring, based on his polarizing past and the show’s definite distancing from him — he wasn’t even offered a spot on Dancing With the Stars, a gig that he openly lobbied for — it’s doubtful ABC would ever sign him on for another season of The Bachelorette.

In addition to Juan Pablo, one other franchise alum who probably won’t ever be back is Nick Viall. The two-time Bachelorette bad boy has made it clear that, while he is still searching for love, it won’t be via group dates on the ABC reality show.

The Bachelorette Season 12 premieres on Monday, May 23 on ABC.
