New ‘Suicide Squad’ Details Featuring The Joker, Harley Quinn, & Monster T

Suicide Squad is the new WB/DC anti-hero film. While hype is being built around the release of Batman v Superman next week, the Suicide Squad is building momentum for its release in August 2016. The film has an all-star cast, and via Comicbook.com, director David Ayer assures the Joker (Jared Leto) will blow fans away.

“What Jared has done is absolutely incredible. When he steps onto the set the world stops. Everything stops. What he’s done is so powerful, so menacing, so palpable, you can feel him. The crew stops working and just watches him. I have to get everybody going again because he’s so fascinating.”

The Suicide Squad film is a live-action version of the comic book of the same name from DC Comics. According to the DC Comics official website, the Suicide Squad is made up of different characters depending on whom the comic author is at that time.

The general story of Suicide Squad is a task force of world’s most dangerous criminals recruited by government official Amanda “The Wall” Waller to take on high-risk missions for a reduction in their prison sentences. They are fitted with tracking devices, and if they try to escape, the tracking device will detonate and kill the escapee.

Rapper Common has been involved in the film since the beginning, but it was unclear who his character is until now. Cinema Blend discovered Common’s character, Monster T, is working for Jared Leto’s Joker. In comics, the character is known as the “Tattooed Man.” On-set photos of Common in costume confirms the many tattoos present on Common’s body. In the comics, the Tattooed Man has the ability to bring his terrifying tattoos to life. His many tattoos include a snake on his bald head, a tattoo of a gargoyle, tiger, dragon, and several deadly weapons. However, the Suicide Squad film has a slightly different take on the character.

“The ink on Common’s variant shows up in the form of a third eye on his forehead, as well as vague looking beast on his head. So not only does it look like Common will have a beast to protect him, he might have the foresight needed to keep himself, and his business associate, ahead of the game.”

Common makes it known that if his character is a hit with fans, Monster T may show up in further WB/DC films such as the Justice League and Green Lantern

Fans are also very excited to see Harley Quinzel (aka Harley Quinn) on screen as well. The DC Comics official website explains that she begins as a promising psychiatrist assigned to Arkham Asylum, which is the home for the criminally insane.

A timely encounter with the Joker while working in Arkham changed her life and turned her into a psychotic criminal, thus her induction in the Suicide Squad. Actress Margo Robbie has had no problem expressing her excitement to Hellogiggles about landing this role.

“I’m not even going to pretend to play it cool. I am dying to see Suicide Squad When people are like ‘I can’t wait to see it.’ I’m like ‘You’ve got no idea, I want to see it more than you do!’ I think it’s going to be so cool, and I just love that there’s a chick character who’s that badass, and who’s actually, like funnier and crazier and stronger than some of the males. It’s an ensemble movie, and the ensemble is so strong.”

Robbie also tells the Independent how ecstatic she is to work with actor Will Smith again. Since she and Will Smith worked together on 2015 film Focus, she’s been dying to work with him again. She even admits she talked him into taking the role.

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Common as Monster T, and many others. Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 5, 2016.
