Charlie Puth: ‘I’m Not Knocking Any Artists, But Some Shows Are So Loud And Blaring, The Focus Is Not On The Music’

Charlie Puth, a singer and songwriter, has had a lot going on recently. The 24-year-old has enjoyed success from moments like being featured on the soundtrack of the latest installment of the blockbuster action franchise Fast and the Furious, Furious 7, all the way to getting Grammy nods here and there and making it to the top of the Billboard 100 with hits like the ballad “See You Again” and modern Motown jam “Marvin Gaye.”

According to Billboard, the infamous duo of Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa recently reunited for the Nickelodeon 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards to perform their famous track “See You Again.” After starting his performance with his song “One Call Away,” Charlie was joined by Wiz Khalifa on the stage. Charlie and Wiz performed their hit “See You Again.”

With his upcoming debut album Nine Track Mind having just recently dropped into stores last January, a little more perspective from the young man himself was given just before Charlie left on an extended roadtrip. The trick to Charlie’s success, the mindset, and what he’s all about was recently tackled by an interview by AJC.

Charlie spoke about his approach to music and live performances.

“I really want to show the true musicianship of things. There aren’t going to be visuals that are going to mask the music, it’s truly me on the piano and hearing my band. It’s maybe a change from what (people) are used to. I’m not knocking any artists, but some of these shows are so loud and blaring and the primary focus is not on the music. Its fun for me to look at that, too, but I’m really about the core.”

He also spoke about his musical instincts and compared himself to John Mayer.

“It’s definitely been done before. When John Mayer came out — he went to the same school as me (Berklee College of Music) — he’s a good-looking guy with total jazz knowledge. I freaked out that he was an incredible guitar player with musical instincts. It works to his advantage when he plays these songs that I know are musically dense pieces of work and he plays them in front of an audience for whom that might not be their primary focus. It makes him more of a star.”

In other news, Charlie Puth has been mired in controversy after a concert held in Dallas last Friday, March 11. According to Us Weekly, during the performance of his song “We Don’t Talk Anymore” Charlie got a little carried away and dropped an F-bomb onstage directed at Justin Bieber. While it might just seem like it came out of nowhere, it is worth mentioning that the album version of the song featured Selina Gomez, on-again and off-again girlfriend of Justin Bieber, singing alongside Charlie Puth. Controversy sparked among fans as the moment was caught on camera and posted on Twitter after the concert. Charlie immediately took to Twitter in an attempt to calm the uproar that the moment stirred up.

Charlie spoke to his fans through Twitter and shed some light on the candid concert moment. The tweets have since been deleted.

“Hey everyone. I feel like I need to clear something up. What I said at the concert last night about Justin was meant to be a joke. However… The way it was said mid song did not sound like one.”

He then proceeded to speak highly of Justin Bieber in a followup tweet.

“I am a massive @JustinBieber fan and I have nothing but great things to say about him and his music always.”

Good spirited, very talented and just an all around good guy. Success seemingly came out of nowhere for Charlie from being a humble vlogger to a multi-Grammy nominated recording artist. Things looking bright for the young singer, and it’s definitely safe to say that fans will see Charlie Puth again and again.
