Matt Damon and Michael Douglas are lovers. Do we have your attention yet? If you’re wondering, it’s for the new HBO film Behind the Candelebra which is based on the life of entertainer and artist Wladziu Valentino Liberace. Liberace, who was known for his flamboyant attitude in the industry, went by his moniker Liberace. His life is said to be so secretive that HBO has decided to make a biopic about the artist’s life. Matt Damon is said to play Scott Thorson, the much younger lover of Liberace.

Liberace, who was known to be secretive about his personal life is about to be exposed by director Steven Soderbergh of Traffic fame. The title of the film, Behind the Candelebra comes from the title of a decorative which Liberace immersed himself in, which included the candelabra on his piano, which was his main instrument of choice.

The film is said to be based on lover Scott Thorson (Damon)’s exposure of Liberace’s life with a tell-all book. When the book was released Thorson was sued for $113 million in alimony due to the explicit tellings of the book. In 1987 in an exclusive interview with People magazine, Thorson told the magazine about Liberace, who died of AIDS at 67, “He thought his personal life was nobody’s business.”

The film, which is still in production is filming with a cast that includes Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Rob Lowe, Debbie Reynolds, Dan Aykroyd, Scott Bakula and Cheyenne Jackson.
