Madonna Says She Wasn’t ‘High Or Drunk,’ It’s All Part Of Her Performance Art

Madonna has been making headlines for her eyebrow-raising performances during the Australian leg of her Rebel Heart Tour. Reports claimed that the Queen of Pop was drinking alcohol on stage and having a meltdown. Now, Madonna is fighting back mad at her haters.

The pop star fired back at critics who claimed she was drunk and belligerent during her performance in Melbourne over the weekend. Many assumed that her bizarre onstage antics were due to her ongoing custody battle over her 15-year-old son Rocco.

Madge has taken to Instagram to slam the claims. She responded to a fan who revealed on Facebook that Madonna would never drink alcohol or take drugs on stage. She’s very serious about her image and her performance art, no matter how strange or controversial it may look to her own fans.

Madonna thanked the fan for his support and wrote: “Too bad people don’t know the art of acting and playing a character. I could never do any of my shows high or drunk. And yes underlying all of this sexism and mysongony (sic) which proves that not only do we get equal pay bUT we are still treated like heretics if we step out of line and think outside of the box! Sexism alive and kicking but i am #livingforlove”

This comes after the reports from TMZ and Radar Online, which claimed that the pop star was drinking from a flask, downing tequila shots, and falling off a tricycle. Alleged insiders also told Radar Online that Madonna has been allegedly mixing her prescription medications with alcohol, even though she’s not a big drinker.

On Saturday night, the Material Girl begged for someone to “f**k” her onstage as she downed even more alcohol. The 57-year-old then added: “I’m just kidding. I don’t have to ask for that.”

She also dedicated the song “Intervention” to her estranged son. During the sad performance, photos of Rocco flashed in the background as Madonna admitted that it hasn’t been easy not having her son in her life.

“If I have learned one thing in my life, it is this — just go with it. If you relax, it doesn’t hurt as much.”

After drinking what appears to be a bottle of vodka, the singer admits that she’s ready to “heal the wounds” over her son and continued her song.

“Everybody knows the saga of me and my son Rocco,” a distraught Madonna was reportedly heard saying during her show “Tears of a Clown,” according to the Sun. “It’s not a fun story to tell or think about.”

Madonna and her ex-husband, Guy Ritchie, have been fighting over the custody of Rocco since the teenager ran away and decided to live with his father in London back in December. Despite that the court order for Rocco to return to the U.S., Ritchie has yet to return his son back to Madonna in her location of New York. Earlier this month, a judge has ruled that Rocco can continue living with his father as long as he stays in school in London until his parents can finally reach a custody agreement.

An insider has told Page Six that Madonna has “basically accepted” that she probably won’t get her son back, but she will fight to at least get one weekend a month with him. The next court hearing has been scheduled at the Manhattan Supreme Court on June 16.

Despite the controversy surrounding her recent shows, Madonna has received rave reviews for her Rebel Heart Tour. Salon claims the singer is just turning her private pain into onstage performance art. The New York Post agrees, stating that Madonna has turned her emotional turmoil into a “compelling” onstage circus act. Do you agree? Sound off below into the comments section.
