Jeremy Renner To Play Julian Assange?


If you can’t get enough of Jeremy Renner after his debut in The Bourne Legacy, the odds of seeing him again on the big screen may be in your favor. It’s said the next role Renner’s hoping to take on is the popular role of Julian Assange in the WikiLeaks film.

According to Deadline, the film which is said to be optioned by DreamWorks studio, has optioned two journalists books to tell the saga of WikiLeaks, and is now currently looking to cast Renner as the controversial loud activist Assange. it is said that DreamWorks is hot on Renner’s trail. As far as who’s willing to direct the film, Bill Condon of Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn fame is rumored to be lined up for the project.

The film is said to be in comparison with The Social Network and All the President’s Men, and is just one of a few projects that has Assange’s story attached to it. Other projects that have been announced so far include a TV movie, that will see Anthony LaPaglia playing a cop tracking down a younger Assange in Melcourne, and another project about a fictional account of the activist’s adventures in Internet Dating.

For those who aren’t familiar, Julian Assange, who’s described as “a compelling character who goes beyond what any Hollywood scriptwriter would dare to invent,” is a man who lost the last of his appeals against extradition to Sweden to face sex crime accusations. He’s also an Australia editor, activist and the founder of WikiLeaks, which is a media site that publishes information from people who publicly announce dishonest and illegal activity in a government department.
