Dwayne Johnson Halts Filming Of His Latest Movie To Surprise Sick Kids In Hospital

Even when he’s in the middle of filming a new movie, Dwayne Johnson is never too busy for a good deed.

Johnson was working on Saturday on the upcoming R-rated reboot of the TV series, Baywatch, when he decided to take a break at the Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, E! News reported. The film crew had been shooting on location there for a few days.

According to Dwayne’s social media post about the visit, he was shooting scenes for the film outside the hospital and “thought I’d pop up to the ward,” United Press International reported.

This is par for the course for Dwayne Johnson, whose acts of kindness usually make the news. He’s given his uncle a brand new truck, used the death of his puppy, Brutus, (whom he also saved from a swimming pool) to warn other dog owners about poisonous mushrooms, and has helped young prisoners turn their lives around.

Now, Johnson can add inspiration to sick children to his charitable resume.

During a break in filming, Dwayne visited the hospital’s Pediatric Specialty Ward to surprise the young patients. Johnson shared a picture of a sweet moment between himself and a little boy named Aiden, whom he met in the hallway and shared a fist bump. Dwayne praised the little boy for his impressive concentration.

“Good Lord I wish I had Aiden’s concentration when I was in my high school math classes. I wouldn’t have failed Algebra twice,” Johnson later posted.

Perhaps the most touching story to come out of Dwayne’s special visit to the hospital was the time he spent with a teen boy named Christopher, Us Weekly added.

While Dwayne was meeting the little kids in the pediatric ward, his “team” let him know that the mother of another patient had been “pleading” with production crew for Johnson to visit her son’s room in an upper floor and give him a “much needed big surprise.”

Because Christopher is older, he’s in the main hospital and not in pediatric care, Johnson explained. So, the actor said he ordered production be put on hold and extended his break a little longer. Dwayne fulfilled this mother’s wish by heading upstairs to visit her son.

“I walked in and his smile lit up the room! And I mean lit that room up!”

Johnson proceeded to talk to the young man about his family and school, and Christopher shared that he’s working hard to eventually graduate. Johnson also gave the teenager a much-needed boost to his self-esteem.

“We talked about how COOL all his scars are from his multiple surgeries — from his head to his chest — those scars are badges of honor and the reminder of how beyond tough this kid is … I got a chance to shake the hand of this very strong and inspiring young man. Stay strong Christopher and show them scars with pride. You’re the man! ~ DJ”

That’s quite a compliment from Dwayne Johnson, an actor well-known by his nickname “The Rock” and just as famous for his bulging muscles as he is for his acting skills.

Johnson seemed to leave the hospital both humbled and inspired by the children and their parents, saying he gave them “so much credit” to moms and dads who “would do anything to take their kid’s pain away and ANYTHING to bring a smile to their faces … As a papa bear I understand.”

“Awesome experience and THANK YOU to all the hard working and caring staff who helped make this visit possible. To all the kids I met — you guys keep smiling and staying strong. All the mamas and daddy’s I met, y’all stay strong too.”

The Baywatch reboot stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach, Hannibal Buress, and of course, David Hasselhoff. The film will be released May 19, 2017.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Johnson plays a “by-the-books” lifeguard. He teams up with a hothead, played by Efron, to stop an oil tycoon from destroying their beach.
