Samsung Enlists Lil Wayne For The Launch Of The Galaxy S7 Edge

There’s undeniably a lot of excitement around the launch of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. That doesn’t mean Samsung isn’t adding a touch of sparkle to the launch of their latest smartphones, however, enlisting the help of American hip-hop artist Lil Wayne. To celebrate that aforementioned launch, Samsung shared a TV commercial to their YouTube channel as Lil Wayne demonstrates the waterproof functionality of the Galaxy S7 Edge by pouring champagne over it.

Undeniably one of the most elaborate approaches any phone manufacturer has taken when it comes to showcasing one of the core features of their device, considering it’s a large feature that Samsung holds over their main competitor Apple, it’s no surprise that they’re going to want to show it off.

“I could pour this champagne on my phone and it still work.”

The video even showcased one of Lil Wayne’s friends, who also made an attempt to pour champagne over his own device, which appears to be an iPhone. However, the device quickly struggles with the prospect and Wayne throws a Galaxy S7 Edge to his friend. That’s all before the party continues on and the three friends continue to pour what appears to be a pretty pricey bottle of champagne right onto their pricey new smartphones.

We definitely have to commend Samsung for the approach they’ve taken in showcasing what is arguably one of the most stand-out features of the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. That being said, it’s worth pointing out that the fine print of the video strictly instructs Galaxy S7 Edge users not to attempt the same thing with their device. So whilst Samsung is keen to show off one of the biggest features of their new device, they’re not so keen that users at home deliberately try out that new feature.

Samsung didn’t stop there, though, when it comes to making the most out of their newfound partnership with Lil Wayne. The hip-hop artist also appeared in another commercial for the phone manufacturer, in which he appears to be demonstrating the Galaxy VR, while wearing his Galaxy Gear. As aforementioned, Samsung is constantly looking for ways to win over users from Apple’s competing iOS range of devices, and considering Apple has turned to a number of celebrity endorsements to sell their devices of late, it’s no surprise to see Samsung doing the same. In fact, we’d definitely say that Samsung has gone all out in enlisting Lil Wayne to appear in their Galaxy S7 Edge commercials.

Both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are being hailed as Samsung’s best attempt yet when it comes to creating a smartphone that can truly steal the glory away from Apple’s iPhone, and with that in mind, you’d be forgiven for wondering why on earth they need to take advantage of eccentricities like this one. That being said, considering the popularity of Lil Wayne and his music, fans seeing the star with a Samsung device certainly won’t hurt the brand’s marketing efforts.

Both devices are available to purchase right now and despite Samsung’s warnings not to, there’s still going to be a number of new Galaxy S7 Edge owners who are going to want to try out exactly how well the device’s water resistant functionality works. That’s only one of the many unique features offered by Samsung’s latest flagship phone, including most prominently that Edge screen that curves around the sides of the device. With those unique features and an all round very capable device taken into consideration, this could be the Samsung device that is finally capable of ending Apple’s dominance over the smartphone market.
