‘Warcraft 3’ Update: After 14 Years, Why Does The Game Still Get Updates? Patch 1.27 Comes Out On Mar. 15

Warcraft 3 as a franchise has already existed for about 14 years now. However, after more than a decade of existence, it seems that the developers are not done implementing updates.

In a recent update released via YouTube, Vice President of Blizzard Entertainment Robert Bridenbecker said that there will be a new update for Warcraft 3. Bridenbecker noted that the team at Blizzard also got a couple of alerts regarding rumors circulating Warcraft 3 and he wishes to clarify all of them.

Bridenbecker said that during the past few months, they have already released an update on the battle platform on Warcraft 3 and included new features like match-making, extended communication features that is said to be “unparalleled to anything we’ve done in the market before.”

Patch 1.27 for Warcraft 3 will be launched on March 15 and it will be simultaneously released worldwide.

This is only our first stop and we look forward to having you along on our journey.

Apparently, the update is in line with Blizzard’s revamp on Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2. Last year, according to Polygon, the tech company has announced that they are bringing both Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 back “to glory.”

Back then, they posted an opening for a software engineer. The job description reads,

“Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation. We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.”

The job was posted November last year. The job ad also clarified that they will be implementing the curation of new and old features. They also noted that they were looking for someone who can “wear many hats” and be able to deal with “small teams.”

Because of the massive announcement, people are starting to wonder what the patch will do to improve the game. Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 are both hosted on Battle.net. Though it is already on a pretty stable system, Blizzard is known for providing quality updates on their games.

Warcraft 3 was released back in 2002 and it was considered to be one of the best sellers at the time. After its launch, Blizzard sold 4.5 million units in a month. Warcraft 3 also won “Game of the Year” for more than six different publications.

Because of the game’s popularity back then, it has become one of the first few games to have a professional touring competition. Warcraft 3 was one of the featured eSports at the World Cyber Games, the Electronics Sports World Cup, World Series of Video Games, International E-Sports Festival, and the World E-Sports Games.

Warcraft 3‘s fame continued to rise until 2009. In 2010, the game met its biggest competitors: Starcraft 2, League of Legends, and DOTA. After this period, Warcraft 3‘s popularity started to decline.

Even though the competition is very tight in the market nowadays, loyal fans of Warcraft 3 hope that Blizzard can resurrect the game back to its former glory.

“We have a history of maintaining our games for many years. Our earlier games are still played and enjoyed today, so we want to continue to maintain them for those communities,” Blizzard said during one of their updates last year.

Blizzard is also working on the update for Diablo 2 and developing expansions for Heartstone called Whispers of the Old. The Heartstone expansion is ready for download on Battle.net’s platform.
