Leonardo DiCaprio Has Become An Unwitting Girl Scouts Spokesman

Those Girl Scouts are crafty young ladies who do their best to promote their tasty product, and during the Oscars, a natural spokesman emerged that is helping those Thin Mints and Samoas fly off the shelf. Actor and comedian Chris Rock, who served as host of the Academy Awards, used the sale of Girl Scout cookies as part of his shtick (while providing a snack for the other attendees of the Oscars). There seems to be a Girl Scout cookie for every taste, but Leonardo DiCaprio is a fit for most tastes, as seen with his big win at the Oscars.

Vanity Fair is hinting that Leonardo DiCaprio is a big fan of Trefoils, and the Girl Scouts have taken advantage of Leonardo DiCaprio’s success. They are suggesting that there is a correlation between DiCaprio and the cookies, similar to Popeye and spinach. The stills of DiCaprio, digging into his own personal box of Trefoils (Girl Scout seal-shaped butter cookies, known to be awesome with a cup of tea, or glass of milk) went viral, and that gave a certain Girl Scout troop an idea. It seems no advertising campaign can’t be improved with some Mr. DiCaprio.

A Girl Scout Troop in Suffolk County, New York jumped on the idea, and incorporated Leonardo DiCaprio into their homespun advertising campaign. The troop combined photos of Leo chowing down on his Girl Scout cookies, along with their very own tale, tying DiCaprio’s success to his love of Girl Scout cookies.

“This is Leo. Leo wants an Oscar. Leo buys Girl Scout Cookies at the Awards. Leo wins an Oscar. Leo is smart. Be like Leo. Buy Girl Scout cookies.”

So did Leonardo DiCaprio’s love of Girl Scout cookies help him win his award? Probably not, but fancy shoes didn’t let any of us “Be like Mike” either, but it encouraged many people to drop $100 on shoes.

Us Magazine is reporting that though Leonardo DiCaprio is being used as the poster boy in the campaign by the Girl Scout troop, Chris Rock is likely the new patron saint of the Girl Scouts of America. Rock said that his “daughters” were Girl Scouts, and like many dads who bring Girl Scout cookies to work to sell to their co-workers, Chris Rock used his hosting duties at the Oscars to do the same.

“I want you to reach into your millionaire pockets and I want you to buy some of my daughters’ Girl Scout cookies,” he joked. “Are we going to deny my princesses from cookies?”

The Girl Scouts of the Suffolk County troop who are using Leonardo DiCaprio’s image to sell their Girl Scout cookies from Thin Mints (great right out of the freezer, which is also a great place to hide them from your family) to Tagalongs, say that people stop and give the poster a second look when they see DiCaprio staring back at them, cookies in hand.

“It made people stop at the table to read the sign, and then we were able to ask them to buy cookies. It’s hard to say no to a Girl Scout.”

Bustle took it one step further, and suggest Girl Scout cookie pairings with Leonardo DiCaprio movies. So fans learned at the Oscars that the best Girl Scout cookie with The Revenant was a Trefoil, but what goes with a Thin Mint? Titanic of course! What sounds better with the cool icy water of the Atlantic than a mint cookie? And of course, the storing them in the freezer trick doesn’t hurt.

And what movie of Leonardo DiCaprio’s would be best with the Girl Scout cookie known as a Tagalong, the perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter? Why the combination as old as time, Romeo and Juliet.

“Some might also say that Romeo was quite the tagalong and that he probably should have just let Juliet live, but OK Shakespeare, we get it. Love is tragic. So is an empty box of tagalongs.”

Savannah Smiles matches up with Django Unchained for a taste of the old south, minus the awful slavery and evil of DiCaprio’s movie character.

Are you impressed that the Girl Scouts got creative and put together the Leonardo DiCaprio poster to sell their cookies?
