Billboard Compares James Holmes To President Obama
What do President Obama and James Holmes, the 24-year-old man accused of killing 12 people at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, have in common? That’s not exactly clear. But a billboard in Idaho conveys the message that they are one and the same.
The billboard in Idaho features a photo of James Holmes beside the words: “Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out.” On the right side of the billboard, a photo of President Obama sits among the words: “Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize.”
The Huffington Post notes that the Idaho billboard, which sits on Franklin Road and North 21st Avenue, frequently features anti-Obama messages. Maurice Clements, a member of The Ralph Smeed Foundation, the group that sponsors the billboard, insists that the billboard isn’t calling Obama a psychopath.
“There’s a tremendous amount of outrage over the people who were killed in Colorado, and justifiably so, but there’s not an equal amount of outrage over all the American soldiers that are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the innocent civilians dying over there.”
What do you think? Is the Idaho billboard offensive?
Several people have voiced their complaints about the billboard, calling it “abhorrent” and “pathetic.”
“This billboard is offensive to all those lives lost and affected by the shooting. Just pathetic, even if this is their expression of the 1st amendment.”
