San Diego Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley shot multiple times

Newly signed San Diego Chargers running back Curtis Brinkley has been shot multiple times while sitting in his car in his home town of Philadelphia overnight.

The former Syracuse University star is now in a critical condition after being stopped in his car by a man holding a handgun at around midnight local time last night. The man shot Brinkley multiple times, but Brinkley was able to drive himself to a safe area before police picked him up.

Brinkley ran for seven touchdowns and 1,164 yards at 4.9 yards per carry playing for Syracuse last season. The Chargers signed the 175cm, 203lb back as an undrafted free agent in March.

Brinkley, who is 23 years old, was listed as fifth and last on the running bakc depth chart at the Chargers, behind LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren Sproles, Gartrell Johnson and Michael Bennett. He remains at the Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment, and the police have admitted they have no suspects.
