Gwen Stefani Drops New Song ‘Misery’ And It’s All About Blake Shelton?

Gwen Stefani has had one sweet and busy year this far, and it’s set to get sweeter as she gets set to drop her third solo album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like. The album is set to drop on March 18, and the tracks on the highly anticipated album are mainly about her experience and split from her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, as well as her new boyfriend, country singer and The Voice judge Blake Shelton.

Stefani’s third single off the album, “Misery,” may be presumed to be about Gavin Rossdale from the title — enduring a difficult divorce may cause a miserable feeling — yet based on the track’s lyrics, it becomes evident that the song is actually about Gwen’s new man, Blake. US Weekly shares the lyrics of Stefani’s most recent single.

“I got so used to being ’round you boy / I’m trying not to care, but where’d you go? / I’m doing my best to be sensible / I’m trying not to care,” she sings. “You’re like drugs, you’re like drugs to me / I’m so into you totally.”

The publication states that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton made their relationship official back in November after speculation and rumors were circulating through every celebrity media site and outlet. The co-judges from The Voice have since been spotted at numerous events and on dates looking as smitten with one another as they can be. There were even rumors about pregnancy and marriage. The couple, however, completely refuted these tabloid rumors.

US Weekly reminds of the events which led to the musical duo finding love.

“The relationship followed Stefani’s messy August divorce with the Bush frontman, which was announced two weeks after Shelton’s split from Miranda Lambert. (Us broke the news that Rossdale had been cheating with their nanny Mindy Mann. Mann is now pregnant and expecting her first child with boyfriend Spencer Gutcheon.)”

On Thursday, the former No Doubt frontwoman opened up about her recent journey and about how she found her recent musical inspiration out of her hardships. The New York Times relays the star’s words during the interview.

“Being in that room and being creative, it was the only place that felt good — I was like, I love the smell of this room. It’s almost like one of those movies where they discover they have magic. When I was able to first write a song, that’s when I found my whole self.”

Songwriter Justin Tranter shared how the process to get Gwen to the point of creating the music she wished to write resembled a relationship.

“We had anger, we had sadness. We had flirtation, we had sexy, and now we’re madly in love.”

Gwen admits she had initial reservations about the highly personal and relationship-based music she was creating for her album. She wasn’t sure how the label or her fans would respond. However, the talented fashionista shares how her label supported her throughout, and she recalls a phone call that demonstrated this support.

“We support you, you should put out an artistic record, and don’t go for radio. It’s over for you, basically.”

“Misery” is the follow-up single to Stefani’s first two that were well-received. All singles revolve around Stefani’s divorce and current relationship with Shelton. “Used to Love You” was the first release that plainly shared Stefani’s hurt at losing someone who she used to love so dearly. The track obviously is about her ex Rossdale, yet the singer’s second track, “Make Me Like You,” outlines her inability to fight falling for Blake Shelton. The theme of the album is clear and meaningful. The best music often comes from sheer vulnerability.
