Bristol Palin, who is famous because her mom was the running mate of John McCain in 2008 (a move Dick Cheney now says was a “mistake”), is rejoining the cast of Dancing With The Stars in season 15.

Whether or not Bristol Palin counts as a “star” due to the fact her mom was once a politician and during that time, she had an out-of-wedlock baby despite the fact her political family runs heavily on support for “traditional” families and abstinence education (a concept for which Bristol herself is a visible illustration of failure) is a debate for another day.

Regardless of whether Bristol Palin has any qualities that necessarily make her more of a celebrity than any other young, single mom from Alaska remains to be seen. But try she does, prancing about for cameras whenever they train upon her.

Palin will be in our faces for another few episodes of Dancing With The Stars, at least, and the reality show star has used the press resulting from the announcement to reiterate that despite wanting to deny fundamental rights to gay people, she isn’t homophobic.

Bristol parrots one of the most common arguments rights-deniers tend to repeat: that she’s sick of hearing or talking about it, which I guess is why she brought it up again? Palin says that she likes homogays… just not enough to make sure that they can be insured through their partners or receive pension benefits or anything like that. So shut up already, gay people and gay supporters!

So she likes gay people, she just doesn’t like them having the same things as us straight people. Here, let Bristol Palin explain it to you:

“You know what? I like gays. I’m not a homophobic and I’m so sick of people saying that… Just because I’m for traditional marriage doesn’t really mean I’m scared or anything of anyone else and I don’t hate anybody.”

Palin continued, saying that her DWTS appearance isn’t about gay people, it’s about dancing. She huffed:

“People are gonna make up stuff about me no matter what and whatever… I’m gonna go dance and I’m gonna have fun and I’m just gonna go have fun on this show. And it’s not about politics, it’s not about traditional marriage and anything like that. It’s just about dancing, and it’s gonna be fun, and that’s all I have to say about it.”

Psst… Bristol. Over here! No one has to “make up” things about you if you keep implying that unions between committed gay partners are not “traditional.” That’s basically you saying things about you. It shouldn’t be surprising that as long as you keep shooting your mouth off in an insulting way at millions of Americans, those millions of Americans will continue to recall how you and your mom keep trying to suppress their ability to live the same way.
