Tim Burton Confirms ‘Beetlejuice 2,’ Script Is Done And Ready To Film

Talks about the sequel of Beetlejuice started years ago, and there have been many comments about the movie, but there has been no official confirmation — until now.

Beetlejuice, released in 1988, is a movie about a recently deceased couple, the Maitlands, played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, who must remain in their old home until they are allowed to enter heaven. However, they find that there are new occupants in their home, the Deetz family — Delia (Catherine O’Hara), Charles (Jeffrey Jones), and their daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder). The Maitlands make a desperate attempt to scare the Deetz family away, but they are unsuccessful. That is when they seek help from Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a veteran ghost who is intent on terrorizing the Deetzes.

Back in 2013, Micheal Keaton and Tim Burton, the director of the movie, were reported to be in talks about the sequel. According to Keaton, he had been exchanging emails with Tim Burton regarding Beetlejuice 2. After that, talks about the sequel died down.

In 2014, Tim Burton again talked about the sequel in an interview with MTV News. When asked if he was to direct the rumored sequel, he answered in the affirmative.

“Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah.”

Again in 2015, Winona Ryder confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 is on its way. She said the following.

“I think I can confirm it. It was very hush-hush top secret… but then (Tim Burton) was doing some press for ‘Big Eyes’ and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it, and Winona’s going to be in it.’ If he said it, I can say it.”

Now, Tim Burton is once again talking about the sequel, and fans are sure to be delighted about what Burton said. According to Showbiz Spy, Burton said the script for Beetlejuice 2 is done.

“The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”

There you have it — Beetlejuice 2 is officially happening. As of writing, there is no word on when filming for the movie will start or when it is scheduled to be released.

Tim Burton, meanwhile, is busy with two other movies that are slated to hit theaters this year. Alice Through the Looking Glass is the sequel to the fantasy adventure film Alice in Wonderland that was released in 2010. The first movie was directed by Tim Burton, and while he isn’t directing the sequel, he is producing it. Alice Through the Looking Glass will be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.

Tim Burton’s second film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, is a dark fantasy film based on the young adult novel of the same name, written by Ransom Riggs. Tim Burton is directing the project, and it stars Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, Ella Purnell, Asa Butterfield, Chris O’Dowd, Judi Dench, and others. The movie will be released on September 30 this year.
